Italian authorities recently arrested eight people accused of running a massive IPTV operation serving around 900,000 subscribers.

The Latest IPTV Operation Crackdown in Italy
Police in Catania coordinated the arrests with help from the District Prosecutor’s Office. The eight suspects face charges including organized crime, unauthorized computer access, and fraud related to distributing copyrighted content from Sky, DAZN, Mediaset, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.
Investigators identified several IPTV services involved: NOWTV, UNITY, PLAYTV, PLATINUM, M&S, ENJOY, MOMY, HERMES, LUCKYSTREAMING, SKYNET, and GOLDRAKE. These services reportedly generated millions of euros in monthly profits.

Sophisticated Network Structure
The arrested individuals are described as top-level management who controlled subscription pricing, service operations, and distribution methods. They allegedly used foreign servers, encrypted messaging apps, and false identities to avoid detection.
Police believe this network represented roughly 70% of Italy’s illegal IPTV market. Based on an estimated €10 monthly subscription fee, the operation could have generated around €9 million per month.

A Repeating Pattern
Similar operations have targeted IPTV networks in Italy for years. A 2022 operation called Gotha also focused on locations in Catania, Syracuse, Rome, and Brescia—the same cities mentioned in this recent announcement. That earlier operation claimed to dismantle a network serving 900,000 users as well.
Going back further, Operation Blackout in 2021 targeted what authorities described as 80% of illegal IPTV flow into Italy. Even the 2019 shutdown of Xtream Codes reportedly affected 700,000 users.
The consistent numbers and locations across these operations raise questions about whether different networks are being targeted each time or if the same network keeps rebuilding after each enforcement action.

The Ongoing Challenge of Pirate IPTV
Despite regular crackdowns, pirate IPTV services continue operating in Italy. Stefano Azzi, CEO of DAZN Italia, acknowledged the recent arrests but noted they represent “only a fraction of the total” piracy problem.
The arrested suspects are currently under house arrest while investigations continue. However, there’s no clear indication that the actual IPTV service was shut down or that subscribers lost access to the network.
Final Thoughts
Italy conducts more anti-piracy operations than any other European country, yet illegal IPTV services persist.
The recurring pattern of large subscriber numbers and similar operational details across multiple years suggests these networks either recover quickly after each bust or were never fully dismantled.
Authorities face an uphill battle against an industry that appears profitable enough to justify constant rebuilding.
