Aptoide Games Will Soon Be Available in the Google Play Store

The popular third-party app marketplace announced that Aptoide Games will soon be available directly through Google Play in the United States, allowing Android users to install the gaming-focused app store without sideloading an APK.

Why Is Aptoide Returning?

Aptoide was removed from Google Play in 2014 during Google’s crackdown on competing Android app stores. Although the company remained available through direct APK downloads, users could no longer install it from Google’s official marketplace.

More than a decade later, that is finally changing.

The return follows Google’s recent legal battle with Epic Games and subsequent policy changes in 2024 that opened Google Play to approved third-party app marketplaces in the United States.

Rather than “sideloading” the application from various outlets, users will soon be able to install Aptoide Games just like any other app available in Google Play.

What Is Aptoide Games?

While many Android users recognize the name Aptoide or it’s tv version, Aptoide TV, the app launching on Google Play is Aptoide Games, a gaming-focused marketplace.

It provides an alternative destination for discovering and downloading Android games while giving developers another distribution channel outside of Google Play.

Although Aptoide has always offered apps through its standalone marketplace, the Google Play release is currently centered on games and will initially roll out to users in the United States.

A Big Win for Competition

The announcement represents one of the biggest changes to Android’s app ecosystem in years.

Google Play has historically been the primary marketplace for Android applications, forcing alternative stores to rely on manual APK installations.

Now, users can install a competing marketplace directly from Google’s own store.

For everyday Android users, the biggest advantage is convenience. Previously, installing Aptoide required downloading an APK file from the company’s website and manually installing it on your device.

Once Aptoide Games launches through Google Play, that process will no longer be necessary.

Although Google Play will remain the primary destination for most Android users, this move gives consumers another legitimate option for discovering games while providing developers with additional ways to distribute their apps.
