Popular VPN provider Windscribe is facing criticism after publishing a bizarre AI-generated advertisement featuring Adolf Hitler.
The video was shared through Windscribe’s official X account and quickly made its way to Reddit, where users questioned the company’s decision to use Hitler to promote a privacy service.

A thread in a popular subreddit has generated thousands of votes and hundreds of comments, with reactions ranging from disbelief to users saying they are considering leaving the service.
The controversy has also reached Windscribe’s own subreddit, where customers are questioning the company’s recent social media activity.
The advertisement isn’t the only thing drawing attention. Screenshots circulating alongside the video show Windscribe discussing its extensive use of artificial intelligence, including for customer support, writing code, and testing.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that Windscribe’s applications are entirely “AI-coded,” as some have suggested.
AI-assisted development has become increasingly common across the software industry, and Windscribe maintains public source code repositories for several of its applications.
However, VPN software is responsible for protecting some of the most sensitive data that travels through our devices, making security practices especially important.
Running VPN servers, developing applications, providing customer support, and maintaining network infrastructure all cost money. If a VPN provider doesn’t charge its users, it is always worth asking how the company makes money.
Some free VPN services have historically relied on advertising, tracking, data collection, or other questionable practices to generate revenue.
