It appears as though Amazon will implement its in-house “Vega Operating System” on various Fire TV devices sometime this year.

After much speculation and various internet leaks, a Lowpass journalist has confirmed plans to transition away from the Android Operating System that currently runs on Amazon streaming devices.
We reported on this back in 2024, however, Amazon has been quiet about its plans to transition its OS and we have yet to see any confirmation from them regarding the change.
There are currently 3 devices powered by Vega OS, which include the Echo Show 5, Echo Hub Smart Home, and Echo Spot Smart Clock/Speaker.
We recently reviewed the Echo Show 15 and know that these devices come with built-in Fire TV, but it is not the same Operating System we are accustomed to on Firestick devices.
As noted in the review, there is no ability to enable Developer Options which means sideloading is blocked and users can only access applications installed from the Amazon App Store.
This may be a game-changer for millions of users who rely on their “jailbreaking” capabilities to download apps & APKs to find the entertainment they are looking for.
In fact, all applications must be “rebuilt” to be used with this new OS as they are currently incompatible and some publishers are already doing so using the Kepler Software Development Kit.
In a now-removed post, Amazon featured a job listing for a Vega OS Software Development Engineer with details including “sandboxing applications, optimizing performance, and enforcing security and privacy policies”.

As referenced earlier, there is no timeframe or official announcement from Amazon regarding these changes so be sure to check back here for any updates in the future.
