Pirate sports streaming site Streameast has reclaimed domain names that US authorities seized last year. The twist? No legal battle was necessary. The US government simply allowed domains to expire without renewal.

Streameast.xyz is now back under control of the original operators after it was shutdown by authorities. The domain points to content from the site once again, and the Streameast team has confirmed ownership.
This marks an unusual turn of events in the ongoing cat-and-mouse game between copyright enforcement and pirate sports streaming websites.
Background on Streameast Domain Seizures
US authorities seized six Streameast domains in 2024 under a federal warrant obtained through a Louisiana court. The targeted domains included Thestreameast.to, Streameast.io, Streameast.live, Streameast.xyz, Thestreameast.io, and Thestreameast.xyz.
After the seizures, visitors to these domains saw a warning banner explaining the illegality of distributing copyrighted material without authorization.
The banner threatened criminal prosecution under Title 18 for anyone reproducing sporting events, television shows, movies, or other protected content.

While Streameast quickly moved operations to new domains, the seized ones continued displaying government warning – until now.
The Quiet Return
Research into both old and recently-seized Streameast domains revealed that Streameast.xyz expired earlier this year. Without renewal from those who controlled it, the seizure banner disappeared. The domain became available for re-registration at a relatively cheap cost.
Hide Your Digital Fingerprint
After researching the streameast.xyz domain with WHOIS data, we noticed it is owned by NICENIC International Group who is a private web hosting company in Hong Kong, China. Interesting to say the least.

Final Thoughts
While one domain won’t make a massive operational difference, the symbolic value is significant. Federal authorities went through the process of obtaining a warrant, yet the domain ended up back with the same operators they tried to shut down.
This incident shows that domain seizures alone won’t solve the piracy problem. Sites like Streameast have proven resilient, quickly adapting to enforcement actions and simply waiting for seized domains to expire when authorities fail to maintain control.
