How Install VPN On Android Box

Install VPN on Android BoxThis step-by-step tutorial will show you how to install VPN on Android Box and configure the settings as well.  This process is assuming that you have Google Play App Store installed on your Android Box and you have a username and password that you can use to log in with.

Why would you want to setup a VPN on your Android TV Box?  There are many reasons but here are the most important.

Your Internet Activity Is Being Watched

Most people don’t realize that their current Internet service provider keeps logs of all streaming and download traffic on their respective accounts.  They can see everything that you have accessed on the Internet which includes media that you have streamed through your Android TV Box or any application (Kodi, Terrarium TV, etc).  Also, if you ever travel and connect to public wifi hotspots, your online activity can easily be intercepted as well.  If you ever connect to any of these insecure access points, it is crucial to use a VPN service.

Your Internet Service Provider May Be Throttling Your Connection

Many Internet service providers are also in the cable television market and they don’t like you using these alternative streaming methods.  So, they either block access to them or they throttle your connection which results in terrible buffering or slow download speeds.  Android TV Boxes are becoming more popular by the day and the service providers will start taking more aggressive approaches to keep their share of the market.

Geo Restricted Content

Some of you live in areas where you cannot access a certain Internet service with your Android TV Box because you don’t live in an area that is allowed.  This is also a big one for those who live in countries where their government restricts access to services originating from outside their country.

IPVanish VPN Service Solves These Problems

When you use a VPN service provided by IPVanish on your Android Box, your connection is encrypted and traffic is routed through another server making it impossible for your provider to see what you are downloading.  Plus IPVanish doesn’t retain any traffic logs so your privacy is 100% secure.  When you connect to the IPVanish service, it assigns you a new IP Address which keeps your Internet traffic anonymous and secure.

By using IPVanish, you will eliminate the probability of your Internet service provider throttling or blocking access to some of the best streaming applications such as Kodi, Terrarium TV, Mobdro, UKTVNOW, Showbox, IPTV services and many more.

Once you register for an IPVanish account, you can use the service on ten different devices so you can protect yourself on your computer, smartphone, Fire TV/Stick, and Android TV Box.  Again, this is perfect for those of you who use public wifi access points so you can now secure both your Android TV Box and any other device that you connect to the Internet.

Hi Anthony, IPVanish doesn’t have a Kodi addon. You need to install it as an app like I show above. This is better as it will protect all apps on your device such as Terrarium, Morpheus, ShowBox, etc.

Hi PJ, you can install the app on as many devices as you like and connect on up to five of them for one account. For all of the other devices, you still need to input your IPVanish username and password.

      • PJ Visconti October 4, 2017 at 10:11 am - Reply

Hi Troy this is an excerpt that comes from the Terms & Conditions of IPVanish.

“All prices are quoted for one user year on one device. You agree that all fees charged by IPVanish for accessing the Services will be automatically charged to your payment account.”

If I am reading this correctly If I add one or more devices to my service, I will be billed for each device.

Please clarify this versus your previous response above

        THANKS

PJ, they may have not updated their TOS. I use there service and one account will work on up to five devices. If you look at their home page, one of the benefits listed is 5 simultaneous connections on multiple devices. Also, keep in mind that they provide a 7-day money back guarantee so you have absolutely nothing to lose when trying their service.

Hi, just installed following your tutorial on my nexbox x95 device. The ipvanish app says it is connected, but my ip address doesn’t change. Any ideas?

      Hi Troy,
I have the same problem. I followed the instructions. I was able to connect onto the VPN app. But when go to a browser to check my ip address, it is still the same and public. When I go back to the VPN app, it has disconnected!! How do I keep it connected while I am in Kodi?
I am using Avira Phantom VPN.

Hey Carlos, I’ve found the way to setup purevpn on android tv box via their support. They suggested me to start with downloading their android app and login and connect it as we usually do on our android phones. It worked for me, but they also suggested that some android boxes might be able to work smooth with the app for which they gave me a few manual setups (for pptp and l2tp protocols) which is plan B if the app has issues. I suggest you to ask their support team if the app thing ain’t working for you. They’ve also added a tutorial for setting up on android tv box in their support center, which might also help you. Cheers!

Troy, thanks for the video on how to set up IPVanish. Just to make it clear, is this is a subscription only paid service? The video does not indicate that.

Yes, this is a paid service. Worth the money in my opinion.
