It’s been reported that the MPA has now added more than 15 streaming sites to the UK blocklist.
The Motion Pictures Association (MPA) is an organization that represents Netflix, Disney, and other Hollywood studios that protect copyrighted content.
Over the past few months, we’ve seen the MPA and other authorities continue to take down popular streaming websites.
Most recently, the MPA has obtained a new blocking order in the UK that targets unverified streaming websites and is enforcing ISPs to block access to them.
The streaming sites on this new blocking list are highlighted by MoviesJoy, Soap2Day, CouchTuner, and others that can be found further below.
These streaming websites receive millions of monthly visitors, making them major targets on the MPA’s radar.
What’s interesting is that a large percentage of these website visitors are coming from the US and not the UK.
The full list of targeted streaming sites on this list includes the following:
While there is a clear financial interest from the MPA and its representatives to block these sites, authorities are also classifying these sites as threats to the public for potential viruses/malware and identity theft.
We have always stressed the importance of using secure Antivirus Software to protect yourself from unverified websites. See our free Antivirus guide below for more information.
This isn’t the first or last time we will see unverified streaming sites/apps shut down, as we’ve seen these instances in the past.
Although this is a victory for the MPA and copyright holders, it only seems logical that this “cat and mouse” game of shutting down streaming sites will continue.
Will Users of These Streaming Sites be Contacted by MPA?
It’s uncertain what’s happening behind the scenes with this latest targeting by the MPA of more streaming websites.
We’ve seen website operators in the past hand over user data, streaming history, and identifying IP addresses. They’re also known to sell this sought-after information to other third parties.
It’s extremely important to only stream content not protected by copyright and protect yourself with IPVanish VPN.
These website operators & app developers can do anything they want to with your streaming history and identifying IP Addresses.
A VPN masks your IP Address and encrypts your connection to the Internet which makes you anonymous.
Also, your Internet service provider can’t see what you’re accessing online since your connection is encrypted.
See our VPN Resource Guide for more information.
Overall, it will be interesting to see what happens with the operators of these streaming websites.
We will keep our visitors informed as more news arrives on the situation.
