Elon Musk recently posted an image on his Twitter account that appears to bash the mainstream streaming services.

Yesterday, the billionaire Tesla CEO posted an interesting image on his Twitter account that appears to compare Pirate Bay to mainstream streaming services.

Pirate Bay is arguably the most popular torrent website on the Internet today with millions of monthly visitors.

Below is the official tweet from Elon Musk’s verified account:

Musk used the “distracted boyfriend” meme to display his point that streaming services are becoming overwhelming and expensive for the average household.

We highlighted the rising expenses of streaming services in a previous article.

Our article points out that in 33 states across the US, the average consumer spent more per month on Streaming Apps than a cable/satellite bill.

streaming services expensive

Netflix was also in the news a few weeks ago about increasing their prices once again.

We were curious what other people had to say so we looked at the top replies to Elon’s tweet. This was one of our favorites:

Although it’s not clear Musk uses Pirate Bay himself, he appears to not be happy with the current streaming service industry.

Hopefully at some point in the future we will see an all-in-one streaming service that is affordable, user-friendly, and full of great content.

Unfortunately, with the monopoly of media companies in the United States this seems too good to be true.

Overall, it will be interesting to see if any mainstream streaming services comment on Musk’s tweet.

  1. Hummm, sounds like his hitting on launching his own streaming site. Perhaps he thinks he can offer it less costly. After all with all the money he has he can get a billion subscribers at have. OST and make lots of money.

  2. All you guys sticking up for elon do realize he just likes to make hinself appeal to the common folk by posting this stuff . He is a 1% who uses all of u in reality to become richer . Hence his tweets on bitcoin and tesla that make markets move so he and his can sell and buy over and over again .

    1. Elon wants us all to buy into starling. $500.00 a month!!!! That doesn’t even count the over $1000 to set up.

      1. Hi Lorna,

This is not true. I am a Starlink customer and the equipment costs $500 with the monthly subscription costing $99/month.

  3. I visited Europe prior to Covid and travel to several countries. In my travels Ialways asked what they paid for the TV service was I surprised the average cost was $38 US. The same services here would run well over $150.

  4. When you say ‘cable’ co’s assume you mean Dish sat also? We stream for movies with Firestick and also subscribe to Dish for the certain channels but mostly for the interface. I can watch on my schedule. Its very intuitive. So while about $100 with one free movie/ month…it saves me time and that is worth $3 bucks a day! Im older and TV is about as much entertainment we get around this house!! I find trolling the streamverse too much time and work for a non-techie.

  5. When Netflix started raising their subscription price we decided to stop signing up for the different streaming services. Elon is right. Paramount is a prime example. You have to buy the service to watch the Yellowstone prequel, 1883. Streaming services are now full on blackmailing users. You can’t watch your favorite shows anymore with just one service. We cut the cord because $$$ kept rising with nothing more to show for the money. They don’t want to provide quality, affordable service, they want to get rich and they think customers are too stupid to notice.

  6. Elon Musk a billionaire, whose whatever services are written off as business expenses. We are trying to survive in an over priced world and whatever we pay for comes out of our pockets. How can we compare? Those who wish to join his movement are free to do so but leave us alone, please.

    1. Maybe you should listen. Learn from someone who is quite a bit smarter than you. Musk is brilliant and has earned his billions. His opinion does matter even if you don’t agree.

  7. I think it may have to do with his low latency in his own over priced service. And he want to blame regular streamer for using to much bandwidth and putting a strain on the service.

  8. I believe some of you are too busy hating on the messenger to actual get the message. He has a valid point. If you are not careful you, could easily pay just as much for streaming TV as cable or satellite.

    1. That telecomm bill in I think 1996 was universally supported and was overall a good move but the one thing about it was it had some loopholes that allowed for the media monopolies we see now. The media is the reason cable and satellite bills are so high. Why would those same companies make streaming services cheap?

  9. I think Troy does a great job with his Advisor.
Regarding Elon Musk, I read the article and the comments. I am surprised at the negative comments about Musk. He is a very successful person providing things that are useful. He does not ask for or receive “bail out” money from the US gov and he thinks the other car companies should not be getting incentives to make electric cars. I agree. Nor should Streaming cost so much. So I agree with a lot of what Musk does and says. Maybe I am not jealous of his success:-)

    1. Musk took government money. Remember Solyndra? It was 1 of 28 companies that got start up money from the government. Tesla was one of those companies as well. He also was given many tax and other concessions in Nevada to build his battery plant.

  10. Bill Cord Cutter

I don’t pay extremely close attention to what he said however most companies that are on the rise are now being greedy. There stock prices have risen as much as 30% or more yet they are asking for more…..as a former Netflix subscriber even $1 more is too much and you still are required to pay again if there is something new that Netflix and others are streaming exclusively. We complained when cable companies would not let you select your channels, well this broke the monopoly and everyone is for themselves……….you get what you pay for….continue cutting the cord….eventually one day it will all come full circle….just probably not in my lifetime.

  11. I have said for over a year now that it would make a ton of sense for Amazon to create its own full Live TV streaming service to go with its VOD platform. And they are in a position to do this for a very low cost!

  12. I don’t put much into what the man says. I stream because there’s no outrageous bill that comes with it, and I do enjoy looking for and adding apks. When you have enough money to go to space I don’t think his words on streaming mean much to many people who are in the cord cutting club.

  13. I dislike Elon. He’s arrogant, runs his mouth about things he knows nothing about way too much, fills even outer space with his garbage (Starlink), tortures animals for neurological experiments, etc. He’s a disgusting human being, and while I do at least agree with him about streaming services, Musk shouldn’t be taken even slightly seriously. The guy is the tech version of Pharma Bro.

    1. You have described yourself quite well in your statement. Your hate for Musk is valid for you, and the runs his mouth about things he knows nothing about way too much, is correct for you, more than for Him.
Nice to see you are Anon and your knowledge of others is eager.

  14. Musk is reactive. This from a man who is filling space with his junk internet satellites; endangering exploratory space flights.

  15. I don’t really care at all for Musk nor his thoughts.
As far as streaming services, I don’t use them. I don’t use cable or dish either. Well, I do have Amazon Prime for online shopping. Prime Video comes with that, so I do use it. But for the most part, since I cut my cable some years ago, I’ve used TROYPOINT, iptv, and the like. And I’ve been more than satisfied. I’ve also enjoyed all of the “exclusive content” from streaming services that I’m interested in. All for the cost of my internet service ($45/mon). Well worth it.

  16. I’d pay more for streaming without ad’s. Without any exception. I currently don’t use cable television at all. I pay for a gigabyte internet connection and also for several streaming services without ad’s. It is worth it for me.

  17. It’s become so expensive because first of all I have to buy expensive internet to get the speeds required for streaming and then the subscription goes through the roof if you want any type of live television then all of the nickel and dimming has gotten me to almost 200 per month and it’s not worth the money!!

  18. He is right. Streaming services are charging more for less than the cable companies are. None of the streaming services have near the channels I used to get with cable. You can get close if you want to pay $85, but still not everything. I tried each of them and just don’t anymore. Antenna and Pluto, Tubi, Crackle, etc. keeps me occupied.

    1. I do not think it was a mistake. Musk is too smart for that. I think he was saying that all of the streaming services are pirates, stealing money from their subscribers like the pirates of the high seas in the past.

      1. I don’t study Musk? But if he includes Spectrum, I agree! We pay $80,00 per month, for the abillity to pay more for any decent entertainment. That’s Too Much!!!
