T95Z Plus Review

This T95Z Plus Review was written by Troy from TROYPOINT after he used this device for over one month on a regular basis.

The T95Z Plus is currently one of the hottest Android TV Boxes that you can buy.  As you can see in the pictures, its sleek design with a honeycomb pattern and illuminating lights, make this a nice looking product.  The front of the T95Z Plus also sports a nice LED screen that displays items such as how it is connected (wifi or lan), and the time of day among other things.

The T95Z Plus remote is capable of mouse mode which means you can click a button and use a mouse on the screen.  The remote also has volume buttons which I truly enjoy as it removes the need to deal with the additional television remote when watching movies or tv shows.  Another nice feature of the remote is an LED button that allows you to change the color options for the LED glow lights at the top of the box or shut it off completely.  The remote also includes a Kodi shortcut button that makes it easy to launch Kodi without clicking an icon on the screen.

It appears that there are quite a few brands that are promoting this box and mine is distributed by Sunvell.  More than likely if you purchase this item off of GearBest, you will get a Sunvell T95Z Plus.  If you purchase from Amazon, you may get Edal, Greatever, Weily, Leelbox, Reechen, Wisewo, Kekilo, Hosamtel, YF, VIPWIND, Emish, or some other brand name.

The T95Z Plus comes with a nice user interface or some people call launcher.  The system is easy to navigate and provides some nice customization options that will allow you to arrange your applications how you see fit.  When you click the Apps icon on the screen, it takes you into an area that will scroll from screen to screen.  The apps section is made up of the following categories; Apps, which lists all of the applications loaded on the T95Z Plus, Music, and Video.  You can add to each of the categories by clicking the plus sign within that category and choose the app that you would like to enable.

Kodi 16.1 Jarvis came pre-installed on the T95Z Plus and includes many popular addons via Fusion TV Addons collection and some well-known Kodi wizards as well.  With all Kodi Boxes, I always like uninstalling Kodi and then performing a clean install while adding the addons and wizards that I prefer.

The T95Z Plus comes with an application called “Kodi Updater” that is suppose to update Kodi when a new release is available.  I tried using this to update from 16.1 Jarvis to 17.0 Krypton but it didn’t work.

The T95Z Plus ships with Android 6.0 installed which is great since the new version of Kodi 17.0 Krypton requires 5.0 or higher.

The device is equipped with a very powerful processor in the Amlogic S912 2.0GHz Octacore, which provides high-speed feedback and smooth response.  It also supports H.265 and VP9-10 Profile-2 decoding which will provide high definition streaming capabilities.

Things I like about the T95Z Plus Android TV Box

  • Feature-rich Android TV Box with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage
  • Easy-to-use launcher that is easy to customize
  • Kodi comes pre-installed with some popular addons and wizards making this easy for beginners to get started
  • The H.265 and VP9-10 Profile-2 decoding provides nice streaming for large files
  • Comes with a nice remote that has some handy features specific to the T95Z Plus such as LED light button, Kodi launcher button, and volume buttons
  • Works excellent with Rii I8 Mini 2.4Ghz Wireless Touchpad Keyboard With Mouse
  • Very affordable Kodi box with some nice features

What I don’t like about the T95Z Plus

  • Include more “lean-back applications” that allow you to use easily with a remote in a 10-foot interface
  • Would be a nice touch if Kodi Updater worked as this is always a roadblock for those first getting into the hobby

Would I use the T95Z Plus Android TV Box As A Primary Streaming Device Within My Home?

Due to the exception power and snappiness of the T95Z Plus, yes, I would definitely use this as my primary device if my primary application that I used was Kodi.  As with all Android TV Boxes that I review, I am still not a big fan of using a remote for the typical Android Apps that can be installed onto the system through Google Play.  But, for those who use Kodi 95% of the time, which most people do, this is a perfect choice.

What’s In The Box?

  • T95Z Plus
  • IR Remote
  • HDMI Cable
  • Power Adapter
  • Manual

*2 AAA batteries not included for remote

Now my Ethernet will NOT pick up and therefore I can’t do any updates or load add-ons…….even through WiFi!!!! It keeps telling me that there’s NO network and I have the dreaded (!) over the WiFi logo. I’m bout ready to shoot this dang thing…….SOMEBODY……STOP ME!!!!!!!

Hi Tony, I would suggest trying to reset the T95Z Plus by going into settings and finding the factory reset button in there. See if that fixes it. If not, send it back and get a replacement or refund.

Troy, I lost my launcher on this device as well as being able to change the LED color. The home button takes me to my favorite apps screen etc, I can still launch Kodi from there. What will I lose or gain with a factory rest?? Thanks

Hi, does it make a difference which brand of the T95Z I purchase? Are they all the same?

Troy, just hooked up a Matricom G-Box Q2. I downloaded their latest firmware (beta) and the box does run better after a very difficult, buggy initial install. It has some impressive on-board memory and brags about a powerful processor. I have tested the download speeds vs. my Amazon FireTv and at this point, the FireTv’s download speed is about 1/3 or more faster than the G-Box using the same server. The box also will go dark occasionally and I have needed to unplug to regain control. I have written to support and am waiting for their response. The box has some nice features and hopefully the next update will remedy these issues. Based on support, I’ll decide whether to keep. Any thoughts about this box or Matricom in general would be appreciated.

Hi Troy. Can I use my Prime benefits on this box?

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this android box Troy!!! It’s really awesome. Thank you for this great tutorial, and thank you so much for all that you share with all of us out here. I am also in love with my Fire Unleashed membership, thank you Troy!

And I also loved my SpinzTV, that is until the changes 2 weeks ago, ugh… Tried to install it on another device and it’s terrible ever since Dimitrology took the build over. I did try to communicate to him politely that the build is now horrible and I uninstalled it.

Anyway Troy, thanks for everything and have an awesome week!
