Cineby has officially shut down after becoming one of the largest pirate streaming websites in the world, reportedly generating more than 160 million visits in a single month.

Cineby Shut Down on a Published Schedule
Instead of vanishing overnight, the operators posted a timetable and worked through it. “We’ve decided to wind things down in stages,” they wrote, offering no reason for closing up shop.

We checked the site ourselves on August 31 and the farewell notice was already up, a day ahead of schedule. It reads “The end has come for Cineby” and confirms that “Cineby and all related services have been shut down.”
The notice points visitors to Apple TV and Amazon Prime trials, plus two free picks: “free alternatives like Tubi or Pluto are available.” Cord-cutters are trading more suggestions in a Reddit discussion thread since the announcement went up.
Why Did Cineby Shut Down?
While the operators initially provided no explanation for the shutdown, they published one final statement that shed some light on the decision.

According to the Cineby team, its two primary video providers, the Sflix group and 1Movies group, went down roughly three months earlier and the service never fully recovered.
“We tried to stabilize things. It just never came back the way it was,” the operators explained.
Rather than continuing with a degraded version of the service, they said they preferred to shut Cineby down while users still remembered it positively. This is noteworthy because considerable legal pressure was also building around Cineby.
The Motion Picture Association previously identified Cineby as a notorious piracy operation linked to Russia, while blocking orders targeting the service followed in the UK, Canada, and India.
However, there is currently no evidence that one of these enforcement actions directly caused the shutdown. Based on Cineby’s final statement, problems with its underlying video providers appear to have played a major role in the decision.

Cineby may be gone, but its name certainly isn’t. Hundreds of domain names containing “Cineby” have now been registered, with numerous new domains appearing during and immediately after the original site’s shutdown.
Some recreate the familiar Cineby interface while others market themselves as replacements or successors.
This is exactly what Cineby’s original operators warned users about in their final message, stating that there was no official replacement for the service.
For this reason, we strongly recommend treating any new Cineby website as an entirely separate service rather than assuming it is operated by the original developers.
Be especially cautious about entering account credentials or personal information, and never download an unfamiliar APK or other file simply because a website carries the Cineby name.

For now, we have seen no verifiable evidence that the original Cineby team has returned or launched an official successor.
