A court ruling in India has ordered that ISPs must block 248 domains across 106 pirate streaming platforms including major sites like Cineby and HydraHD.
The court order also forces US-based domain registrars to permanently suspend those same sites worldwide.
The Plaintiffs Behind the Case
Universal City Studios leads a coalition of nine plaintiffs, though most weren’t named in the court order. The group includes members from the Motion Picture Association (MPA), the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), and South Korea’s Copyright Overseas Promotion Association (COA).
Japanese anime producer Toho Co. Ltd. joined as copyright owner of content exclusively distributed in India by an unnamed plaintiff.
Target Sites and Response
The injunction targeted 106 “rogue websites” operating from 248 domains. High-profile streaming sites like Cineby, HydraHD, and Vidsrc topped the list—sites the MPA describes as “hydra-like” because they continuously respawn under new domains when blocked.
These platforms operate as one-stop streaming sites offering content comparable to IPTV services but without subscriptions or dedicated devices.
Takedown notices went out to all sites on September 10. Only mp4moviez.villas responded, claiming they merely “index and organize” publicly available content. That defense didn’t work, especially after the site ignored the actual takedown request.
How the Blocking Works
The injunction operates on two levels. Indian ISPs must immediately block all listed domains plus any mirrors, redirects, or similar platforms. More significantly, domain registrars in the US and other countries must suspend the domains entirely and provide registrant details—including KYC information, credit card numbers, and phone numbers—within 72 hours.

The order’s scope extends well beyond the 248 named domains. Any website that appears connected through name, branding, operator identity, or content source falls under the injunction. For sites like Cineby and HydraHD that share similar infrastructure or content sources with dozens of other platforms, this broad language could easily encompass thousands of additional streaming sites.
Major registrars including NameCheap, Spaceship, NameSilo, and Porkbun are already complying. Early analysis shows roughly four dozen domains suspended using “clientHold” status.

Final Thoughts
This court order represents a game-changing moment for copyright enforcement. By using Indian courts to force US registrars into immediate compliance, Hollywood found a weapon far more effective than anything available through American legal systems.
That said, the piracy ecosystem has proven remarkably resilient—for every domain that gets suspended, several new streaming operations will pop up to take its place.
