HBO has officially announced a new plan to launch an ad-supported version of the popular Streaming App HBO Max.
This new “tier” is scheduled to release in June of this year and will accompany the current subscription option.
The price for this ad-based version will be $9.99/month for full-service with advertisements.
Right now, HBO Max costs $14.99/month and is completely ad-free.
John Stankey, CEO of AT&T (which owns HBO), said the following about this new version:
Our number one priority in 2021 is growing our customer relationships. It’s about more than just adding to our customer base. It’s about expanding the growth opportunity in our three market focus areas and also increase our share within each market

The ad-supported option of HBO Max will also miss out on a couple of key features that the premium package provides.
Hide Your Digital Fingerprint
This includes the ability to stream theater premieres from Warner Brothers the same day that they are released.
However, users will not experience ads when viewing HBO Max original content.
