VPNSafetyDot Receives New Update that Requires Paid Subscription

vpnsafetydot premium

One of the most popular Firestick Apps, VPNSafetyDot, has recently updated to its latest version which will now require payment.

VPNSafetyDot is a streaming tool that works as a “Kill Switch Alternative” to notify users when their VPN is disconnected.

It enables an icon on your device screen that indicates whether or not your VPN Application is working.

The latest update to VPNSafetyDot is a complete overhaul of the application with added new features and a notable Premium option.

Current users of the app had service for free and are likely to stop using it after its latest paywall update.

If you already have the app installed on your device, you will be required to update to the latest version upon launch.

As you can see, the new update now indicates “You’re using VPNSafetyDot Basic” with a Premium option available.

Best of all, Surfshark users can install a home screen widget to display their connection status on Firestick/Android devices.

  1. I switched from Nord to IPVanish recently, and a month later Surfshark came out. I will wait until next year when IPVanish has a kill switch. I am so much happier with IPVanish.

  2. Still with the kill switch you don’t know when you are shut down until you check your Computer. What we need is an app that has a “Kill Switch” that kills the application and sends you a “Notification” of what it just did. Also an Alarm would be nice.

Yeah I uninstalled the Dot as soon as I felt pressure to pay. I have atlasvpn for now as IPVanish wanted too much money. I cut the cord to begin with because I’m on a VERY small income plus was tired of being lead by the nose as to when and where to watch TV. Always looking for bigger, better, faster and louder in everything but as cheaply as possible.

  4. Having contacted IP Vanish today it’s my understanding that whilst only the Windows, Mac and Android Mobile client versions currently have the kill switch option, they are working on an upgrade for the Firestick client which will include that option.
Timeframe was a little woolly – “a couple of months” to “definitely 2023” – but seems promising all the same, especially if you’ve just renewed subscription or have a good deal.

  5. I paid for the app.
I dont care, i like it, and use it every day.
I use Ipvanish, WeVpn and Ivacy.
    But… I wanne try Surfshark.
Ivacy whas 50 dollar for 5 years.
    I pay till 2025.
Ipvanish and a cloud for 5 dollar a month.
And in my opinion WeVpn is the best Vpn.
I have 500mb on my laptop whith Vpn on.
On my Nvidia Shield pro about 200mb.
My internet connecting from my provider is 600mb.

  6. Hi Troy. Thought I would try the new VPN Monitor Dot. I installed by your directions, clicked Start, then OK, but didn’t get a server selection. Cleared cache, date and launched again. Just a slow blinking RED light top right. Thanks
Forget to mention Red light in first post.

  7. I ran into a funny thing with IPV and the kill switch on a tablet. With the kill switch activated, when I turned on my tablet, I had no access to the internet and could not get IPV to connect because IPV access was blocked by the kill switch. I had to turn that feature off and just leave it on autoconnect.

  8. SurfShark should take this opportunity to include it’s own visible safety feature. Just one more selling tool added to an already great product.

  9. I’m not leaving IPV I have one of the best discounts from them and I only pay $100 for 2 years. I’ve been with them for many years with really no issues. Started using the dot only because it was helpful at the time. I may or may not pay the premium for it. I will decide when it becomes time. I mean really $24 for a year ain’t that bad, but it’s not great either. I may just start checking from time to time to make sure My IPV is running line I used to before the dot was available! Thanks TroyPoint as always staying informative. Appreciate it.

    1. Hello Hsbsr, keep in mind that you can use the IPVanish Widget with Wolf Launcher as well. So, that will always be on your main screen. Link for that tutorial is in post above.

  10. i currently use IP Vanish and NordVPN. will not having VPN Safety dot have a significant impact on me? I will buy SS when one of my current subscriptions expire.

  11. First this issue with the green dot and a new issue with Analiti not showing the download speed. I’m opting not to pay for the green dot upgrade as it was something nice to have, but not necessary. And I sure don’t need the upgrade features that they are pushing. And, of course, I just renewed my IPVanish for 2 years since they’ve been good to me and my needs. Oh well c’est la vie.

  12. If you relaunch safety dot it will give you the option of using basic. It will time out after a number of hours but can be relaunched again. PITA

  13. Typically Troy, you would have an alternative free Safety Dot-like app to replace it. Many of us do not have Surfshark. Is this a possibility?

    1. Hi Carl, no there is no other alternative at this time. You can also use the IPVanish widget as well just like Surfshark that we mention in the article.

  14. Is there another alternative besides a VPN? I still want the dot in the corner (or something) that is a visual reminder of whether I’m connected.
    Thanks for everything you do.

  15. The developer is a crook – gives something for free to everyone, then takes it away.

And it’s a stand-alone app that doesn’t need a cloud service, so to charge per month is beyond greedy!

I am a developer and I am going to write a clone of this app and just sell it for a one-time charge of a few dollars and then you will own it.

  16. Surfshark is NOT an alternative to VPNSafetydot. It’s a totally different kind of service altogether. A true alternative would offer exactly what it’s replacing.
Kudos to Surfshark for incorporating a cut-off switch to their Fire TV app though, it’s a shame others don’t offer likewise. Fingers crossed that NordVPN do so soon.

    1. The point we are making is that if you have Surfshark, turn on the kill switch and be done with it. The reason people use VPNSafetyDot if because there are no other VPNs that we are aware of that have a working kill switch for Firestick / Android TV apps.

  17. VPNSafetyDot highjacked my firestick 4k. I could not leave the mandatory updatepage unless I updated. I will not be blackmailed. Iwould rarther just check if I am connected

    1. Unplug your device, re-plug, and it should go to home page. Then you can erase Safety Dot. If it is still giving you problems, you could put it back to factory settings — but of course, you’d have to reload your apps.

    2. Did you click Dismiss on the offer? Then you can run it again for free. It will stay active for several hours until it stops again with the “offer.”

  18. I’ll switch to Surf Shark in March, when my IPVANISHVPN subscription runs out. It’s very disappointing that VPN Safety Dot doesn’t give you the option to just keep the basic version. As of right now, my VPN Safety Dot is still working fine. I’m not sure when the free trial ends.?

  19. Laughable. Must think they’re indispensable. They’re disposable in my opinion. Will switch from IPVanish to Surfshark in Feb23 when current subscription expires. Goodbye safetyDot.

  20. Hi Troy is surfshark the only alternative to the safety dot. Unfortunately my IPvanish
    was renewed last month..

    Thank you
    Lauri

    1. Unbelievable! Just the other day I was saying it’s undoubtedly the greatest app I’ve ever used! I mean EVER!l, for anything! Been using it for a few years and thought it was such a Godsend.
This is crushing! Will people really pay for this? ? I won’t. Uninstalling it from all my devices tonight! ? Pissed!
