National Data Breach Exposes Millions of Social Security Numbers

Earlier this month, another hacker, known as Fenice, shared a more comprehensive version of the database for free, containing 2.7 billion records, many of which referred to a single person multiple times.

The exact number of individuals affected by this breach remains unclear, but multiple people have confirmed that the records included details about themselves and their family members, including deceased relatives.

According to Troy Hunt, the creator of the Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) service, one version of the NPD database contained 134 million unique email addresses.

However, not all the information in the leaked data is accurate. Tests conducted by BleepingComputer showed that some records associated individuals with incorrect names, and some details were outdated, lacking current addresses.

Despite these inaccuracies, the breach has already led to at least one class action lawsuit against Jerico Pictures, the entity that operates National Public Data.
