The following guide shows how to install Just (Video) Player on Firestick, Fire TV, and Android devices.

The ‘Just’ Video Player is built for Android-powered devices that pairs with streaming apps like Stremio for improved playback.
This works like MX Player for those familiar with that app. It’s also a very lightweight video player that handles all common formats without any extra setup.
The Just Video Player can be installed on most streaming devices including Fire TV, Android TV/Google TV, tablets, phones, and more.
While this app is available in the Google Play Store and Amazon App Store, we don’t recommend installing from these app stores because they provide outdated versions that don’t work as well.

Just Video Player Features & Details
Just Video Player is a free, open-source app built on Google’s ExoPlayer engine, currently at v0.211 from developer moneytoo on GitHub.
Key features include audio and subtitle track selection, playback speed control, swipe gestures for brightness and volume, PiP (Picture-in-Picture) mode on Android 8 and above, plus a volume boost setting.
Just Video Player Review
The ‘Just Player’ is one of the cleanest external video players available for Android-powered streaming devices today. Here’s what we found after testing.
What We Like
- 100% free, open-source player with no ads, no tracking, and no excessive permissions
- Integrates very well with Stremio and other streaming apps
- Built on Google’s Media3 (formerly ExoPlayer)
- Handles tough audio codecs like AC3, EAC3, DTS, DTS-HD, TrueHD, and more
- HDR10+ and Dolby Vision playback supported on compatible hardware
- Volume boost setting pushes audio past the system limit for quiet sources
- Distribution across Google Play, F-Droid, Amazon, Galaxy Store, and direct APK gives flexibility
- Auto frame rate matching on Android TV boxes for smoother playback
- Active subreddit (r/JustPlayer) and Weblate translation community keep the project responsive
What We Don’t Like
- Audio-only playback isn’t officially supported, so this won’t work as a music player replacement
- No built-in media library or network storage browsing; users must rely on the system file chooser
- Subtitle styling options are limited beyond what the Android system caption settings allow
- Older video formats like WMV and Theora aren’t supported, since upstream ExoPlayer skips them
- Open GitHub issue reports file browser problems on Android TV 12 with USB storage attached
Final Thoughts from Troy
Just Video Player is one of the cleanest external options you can run on a Fire TV or Android TV device, loading quickly and handling tough codecs that built-in players choke on.
If you’re hitting dead links or struggling with playback inside free streaming apps, swapping over to this video player is worth a shot!
