Firestick and Fire TV users beware: Downloading various applications from the Amazon App Store is now automatically subscribing users to the service.
Installing applications on these devices has always been extremely easy and best of all, most are entirely free to download. However, a new wrinkle in this process has appeared as some apps will automatically subscribe you to the service when simply downloading a free app.
This is the case for some of the most popular apps available today and includes the likes of Paramount+, Apple TV, Philo, Starz, and more. If you search for these via the Amazon App Store, you will see that the first option says something like “Subscribe & download app”.
In the past, this would simply say “Download” and allowed you to install the app free of charge. However, users now must scroll over to the “Download app only” button to ensure they don’t register for this paid service.
Even those who have already paid for a subscription could be prone to getting charged again since Amazon processes these subscriptions separately.
Those that provide a free trial option will automatically sign you up and download the app simultaneously but as we know, these “Free Trials” always require payment and will automatically charge you once the trial expires.

If Amazon wasn’t frustrating Firestick owners enough by blocking shortcut remote buttons, 3rd party launchers, and adding full-screen video ads, this latest stunt is sure to anger users everywhere.

If you are browsing for and installing applications on your Firestick or Fire TV device. Be careful so that you don’t end up registering for a service you do not wish to pay for!
