How To Reset Kodi On Fire TV

How To Reset Kodi On Fire TVThis tutorial will show you how to quickly reset Kodi on Fire TV or Fire TV Stick.  By doing this, you will not be required to reinstall Kodi, which takes additional time on the Fire TV or Firestick.

For those of us who participate in the Kodi hobby, we understand that we must reset Kodi on a somewhat regular basis to keep it running at peak performance.

If for some reason, resetting Kodi on the Fire TV doesn’t do the trick and you are still experiencing problems, I suggest that you do a factory reset of your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick.

Keep in mind that when you reset Kodi on Fire TV or Fire TV Stick, you will be erasing everything that you have installed within the applications.  Some things to think about are your favorite Kodi addons, skins, and settings.  I suggest writing down everything that you want to reinstall after you have done a factory reset on Kodi.

Below you will find the steps necessary to reset or restore Kodi on your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick.  I strongly suggest that you watch the video below the instructions for additional details regarding this process.

How To Reset or Restore Kodi On Fire TV Steps

  1. Close out of Kodi on your Fire TV is you are inside of it and go to the Fire TV or Firestick home screen.
  2. Go into the Settings tab toward the bottom of your Fire TV screen.
  3. Click the Applications tab.
  4. Scroll down and click Manage Applications.
  5. Scroll down and click Kodi.
  6. Scroll down and click Clear Data.
  7. You will receive the following message “Delete app data?”.
  8. Click Clear data once again.
  9. Push the up button on your remote and then “Launch Application”.
  10. Confirm that Kodi has been reset to factory defaults.
  11. Reinstall your favorite Kodi addons, skins, and settings on your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick.

IMPORTANT!  Many Internet Service Providers are starting to block access to Kodi addons, builds, and wizards.  To avoid receiving threatening letters regarding copyright violations on your part, you must use a VPN service while using Kodi.  A VPN service will encrypt your Internet connection and hide your ip address so your provider doesn’t know what you are streaming or downloading.

Would like to download KODI but worried about adult content with my children. Are those add-ons separate or do they come default with KODI?

I’m stuck before I even begin. my screen layout looks nothing like the one in the video. my settings, etc. is displayed across the top of my screen, not down the left side. some other things are also not the same, such as names of settings. is this an up to date guide or an older version of a firestick?

    • Troy September 20, 2017 at 11:01 am - Reply

Hi Josh, you probably have an outdated version of Kodi. See this for updating – https://troypoint.com/how-to-update-kodi-on-fire-tv/

Followed your instructions and now the Kodi app is useless and blank.

    • Troy June 23, 2017 at 9:28 am - Reply

Stacey, as stated in video and tutorial above, when you do this, it will erase everything within Kodi. It resets Kodi to default settings. Get my free Supercharge Guide with the form at top of page and that will show you how to install all of the best addons with the click of a button.

      • Stacey Dippel June 23, 2017 at 10:07 am - Reply

You should make aware in your instructions that by resetting it it would wipe it completely out. I can’t do anything with it. Spent 3 hours fooling with it and can not get Exodus reinstalled on it because file manager, add ons, everything is gone. It has no options available at all to even begin reinstalling everything. What a mess and horrible, unclear directions.

        • Troy June 23, 2017 at 10:18 am - Reply

Again, see paragraph #4. Also, go to :50 in the video and I state it clearly there as well. Not sure how else I can get this across.

          • Stacey Dippel June 23, 2017 at 10:32 am

So disclaimer: Do not just follow the written directions, must watched video as well. I didn’t watch the video. Didn’t know I needed to do both.

are you still having issues? Were you able to figure it out?

  11. A wilkir June 6, 2017 at 11:19 am - Reply

Having an issue…I added the new version 17.3 Krypton…and when I added the fusion addon…my screen started going blank for 5 seconds…then everything would be there…then 13 seconds later it went blank again….it does this non stop now and I can’t get any sound when trying to watch anything. It is very hard to get to a movie with the screen going blank over and over. So I did what you suggested up top and cleared my Kodi…but then I added fusion again…and as soon as I went into the Indigo Wizard it all started again…I have cleared kodi again, but IDK what to put in the source to get to watch movies or tv without having to have to deal with this again and again…any suggestions? or can I go back to 17.2 or 17.1 and not have this problem

    Just an FYI.

After installing Kodi and Exodus, i tried to watch a movie. It had a lot of stoppage as the stream tried to catch up. What I found may be of help to others.

Instead of installing a VPN (I hate spending money), I found a program for checking my router called Wifi Analyzer (it’s free in the Google Play Store) and runs on Android systems, phones or tablets. It has a graphic display along with a lot of other info that will tell you which wifi channels have your strongest signals. I live in an apartment complex and there are a lot of other wifi signals around that can interfere with each other. The more you have bunched near each other on the same or close by, the more the interference. See where your signal lies and then you can adjust your channel at your router as needed.

After I changed from channel 1 to 5, I got a very clear signal and watched the movie, full length, with no problems.

Hi guys turned the Firestick on today and my homepage is gone black screen 3 white dots bottom right hand corner ,after pressing a few buttons it seems I can only access Kodi through the app manager where as I had all my options on start up whats changed. ??
Kodi is still 16 Ive yet to upgrade it to the latest 17 version
Also VPN seems to be an issue I dont have it and Im looking for a free install any suggestions , cheers

    • Troy April 29, 2017 at 10:48 am - Reply

More than likely, your system has updated firmware and you are now on the new user interface. Here is a tutorial on that – https://youtu.be/pddMFLMbPkc Regarding VPN, you can get my tutorials via the VPN Guides menu item above. I wouldn’t suggest a free service as they are probably not going to protect your data as they need to make money somewhere.

        Troy,
I followed your direction for updating Krypton 17.1 and cleared the cache. I am having a problem with many of my add-ons and unsure if it has anything to do with the update but I need your help. For example, my prosports app won’t load sport game anymore and pull up an error message saying “One or more items failed to play. Check the log for more information about this message.” I have installed both the Kodi Log installed and updater and neither work (don’t pull anything up on screen). What should I do next? Can I force update some apps? What would you suggest? Please let me know. Thank you!

  26. cyberbav March 8, 2017 at 10:03 am - Reply

Everything was working fine until this morning. Clicked on Kodi icon and got brief error message that says “This app is not associated with your amazon account” Now it just goes to a blank screen and doesn’t launch. Is this why reset is needed? It does the same thing whether or not IPVanish is running

    Hello Troy,
I am having problems with fire stick ??.
The home page isn’t,t showing Kodi on it , I tried downloading and reinstalling but still no shoe ???.
I was very pleased therefore to receive your group email which I just watched.
I was sceptical because your first bit of info was to go into settings and empty catch on Kodi !!!.
Ha ha I thought, , you,ll be lucky ! , I don,t have it on my stick , but I filled your directions and was surprised to see Kodi in there .????
So I carried on and cleared the cache, and rebooted hoping to find Kodi showing, No such luck.
Can you tell this old codger what he is owing wrong ??.
I really do appreciate the help you make available, , I am afraid the brain is slowly going to God, but I,m not ready to follow it just yet.
    Hope you can help.

    • Troy June 1, 2016 at 7:56 am - Reply

Hello Norman, I also replied to your email. I think you need to update your Fire TV firmware as it sounds like you may still be on an old version. As of Fire TV 5.0.5.1, all sideloaded apps should appear on home screen on Fire TV.
