I have an Apple tv box, Troy could you tell me something, if you know, about side loading apps on the Apple tv box. Thanks
Thanks Troypoint for keeping me in the loop. Your work is awesome.
Why did you not mention the Apple TV 4K on sale at Costco? $99 for 64GB / $119 for 128GB versions respectively. This is faster than both the Nvidia Shield and the new Fire Cube and you can load Kodi on it using Xcode. Better interface with no bloatware/ads.
The only reason I am thinking about this over the Shield Pro is because that is outdated now and Nvidia doesn’t seem like it has any plans to put out a new one. Have 2nd gen Cube now and had the 1st gen before that. While it is better than the sticks, it is still just ok. I am annoyed with the bombardment of ads, notifications that you can’t turn off (e.g. music), 3rd gen not having gigabit Ethernet and charging extra for a backlit remote. Also, they have slowly started to block more and more apps from their store.
Hey Joe,
Thanks for the information. You are correct about Amazon flooding their devices with ads, however, this article is for Prime Day Deals.
Just a warning, this has been my personal experience, I bought 2 FireTV’s when they were on sale on Prime Day(year before last) and BOTH of them stopped working just after a year. One lasted 13 months and the other lasted for 16 months. I know they were on sale, but when you buy two it is still a significant amount of money. So if you do purchase them, make sure you buy the extended warranty. But personally, I now stay far away from the tv’s. The Firesticks work just as well and for a lot longer. The only reason I purchased the tv’s was because I thought it would be more convenient. Convenient yes, but at a significant cost.
Hard to pass up a deal on a Fire TV, but if it’s the TV that’s failing, skip it and just buy the firestick. None of my 6-8 sticks have failed.
You got that right Keith, especially when here in Canada, they cost over $100 more on each tv than in the U.S. I just bought a Fire Cube today on Prime. Hoping it works because all 3 of my Firesticks have a lot of miles on them and not sure how many more years they will have left. I have read different reviews on the Cube and since I won’t be gaming, I didn’t think I needed a Nvidia Shield
Installed Kodi on my Firestick with addons The Crew and Siren. Put my Real Debrid account in both and now when I go to Kodi on my Firestick it just shows a black screen.
Because the Sticks are lacking in Space. Kodi is a resource hog. Use a fork and 1 or 2 addons
I istalled Kodi with add ons The Crew and DaddyO and have had similar results. At first I had only had The Crew add on , but it slowly had less and less usable content so I installed DaddyO as an alternative. Initially DaddyO was pretty good, but yesterday the screen went black. Next day Kodi came back but “no streams available” is all I am getting. I have now reinstalled everything twice (each install about two weeks apart) and things are better at first , but never satisfactory. I’ve been using Firesticks for about ten years and I feel my expectations are very realistic.
Had the same problems. Go to the Fire Stick settings; Application: Manage Apps. Find Kodi and click on it then scroll down and select Force Stop. Works every time. I also have the Crew, but beginning to think it is the version of Kodi. I see a new version came out about a week or 2 ago. I will be updating mine this weekend and see if that clears it up.
I’ll never buy another firestick or cube again. They simply don’t last. My cube died after two years of use. All of my firesticks have either died or can’t handle the current load that is put on them. I did buy the NVIDIA Android device and it is awesome! Since it is fairly new, I don’t know how long it will last. Time will tell.
Is there some app you can download to Amazon Fire Lite to make all apps downloaded and those which came with it movable to USB external storage??
I’m done buying amazon devices or any device that is not open source directed and of android footprint. I’m beyond tired of device companies like amazon, roku, etc constantly manipulating my media experience. I’m thinking NVidia Shield, but I appreciate the comments on the tube that indicate I would surely be unhappy with that product.
Shield is on sale for Prime Day(s).
The NIVIDA Shield Pro is the best, an can easly expand the memory in it.
The Shield Tube you pictured is way underpowered. It is 32 bit, with a small amount of memory.
The Shield Pro is the model you want if that’s the brand you’re considering. You will regret buying a Tube from the first day of ownership.
the 50″ hicense tv dropped another $60! it’s only $339
I have a Hicense TV. I inherited it from my nephew without a remote. I ordered a new remote, but it does not do anything but scan antenna channels. I have wifi, Netflix, and Hulu that I would like to use the buttons for; what do I need to do? Is there a website?
Not sure if theres a sale on this, but a deal just the same. Its a mini-pc. If you’re looking to replace your old desktop, because you need that large monitor for gaming , videos, and things that laptops wont do, this mini-pc will do everything a large bulky tower will. For around $260. you get 12gb ram, 265gb ssd hd, Windows 11 Pro installed. The CPU is an Intel Celeron 2.00Ghz, but its performance and speed are excellent. You cant expect a core processor for the price, most cost more than this pc. For my needs, this pc was a great find and you wont find a desktop anywhere near that price. BTW you can buy them with Intel core for obvious price increase.
Hello there Hazbyn. Can you please indicate the link to that mini-pc. Thanks
Could you tell me where this is available. I have been wanting to get rid of my desktop for a long time. I would appreciate just a link and if it looks good to me I will probably buy one.
Thanks a lot, Herman
Hi Guys: I think this might be it:
https://www.amazon.com/Quad-Core-Processor-Computers-Expansion-Ethernet/dp/B0B179FTZR?th=1
Or it could be this one?
Limited-time deal for Prime Members: Beelink SER5 Mini PC, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U(6C/12T, Up to 4GHz), 16GB DDR4 + 500GB NVMe M.2 2280 SSD, Win 11 Pro Mini Desktop Gaming Computer Support 4K@60Hz Triple Display/WiFi 6/BT 5.2/USB-C https://a.co/d/12B14Bl
NV Shield Pro and Shield TV are selling for 15% off an 17% off respectively.
Amazon devices OS have too much bloatware compared to other OS’s.
Nothing interesting to purchase the last 2 years on Prime Day
I already have IPVanish. Can I renew at the discount price?
Hi Marissa, yes please contact their support team asking for the current discount to be added when your plan ends
Hey Troy, what is the best way to contact them about this? The regular website doesn’t have an option to sign into your account.
Great job. Your videos are very clear and helpful.
Thanks, keep up the good work!
Highly recommend the Cube. I have 2. Regardless of Alexa/voice activation, it has way more Gigs of Ram so it is easy to maintain also allows for more applications to be downloaded and less buffering. I have had 4 firesticks and in my experience the cube has been better.
I second this for the Cube. Picked one up couple days ago on early Prime Day and I am impressed. It is way faster than the Fire stick 4k I was using. And an added bonus is being able to connect a webcam and do video calling with my grandson on the TV now. Well worth the extra money for it.
I agree with you. I have the same experience.
Absolutely! I have 2 Cubes and they are so much better than the various sticks, of which I have 5, 3 of which are not being used. Go for the Cube, it’s worth it!
I’ve had 5 iterations of Firesticks, a Mecool, and a cheap Dynalink box. My buddy gave me a Cube and I’m really disappointed. Compared to even the Dynalink box, I get buffering and it just doesn’t seem to operate quickly and efficiently despite external storage relieving some of the memory hogs. I recently bought an ONN box and it’s far superior to everything I’ve tried except maybe the Mecool (4, 32). Don’t know if I could have done something wrong with the Cube, or maybe I got a dud, but it’s now retired.
That’s good to hear! I have a Cube, but never seem to use it, usually my firesticks with limited storage. I did get the Fire “box” because back then it had an SD card slot. I figured it could be used for storage, but sometimes it doesn’t read the SD card where I’ve moved some of the apps. I’ll have to check out the cube storage. . i hate buffering.
Fire Cube 50% off if you have Prime… Not sure how long it will last..
Just picked up two… I still prefer Fire Cubes over Nvidia for my cord cutting
Looks like a limit of 2 per prime customer
Keep up the fine work. Forever in your corner.
Why, when trying to activate trakt on The Oath and (if I remember correctly) Base 19, I get the message “do you want to allow compromised app ….? Trakt c.s. said they only put name of app on and not to use.
