There are some new updates coming to Google TV devices that are sure to enthuse fans of these popular media devices. All of these come before the launch of the brand new Google TV Streamer that will be available this week.
Google TV is an Operating System built on the Android TV OS that has added benefits and features, modified to run on your television set. It is built into various popular streaming boxes including the onn. 4K Pro and Chromecast with Google TV (which is being replaced by the Google TV Streamer).
With the launch of the Streamer will also be the first time we see Android TV 14 OS which includes tons of new updates. Many of these will make their way to other boxes and devices that run the Google TV skin and we are learning about some of these now.
Google is beginning to roll out these new features across all devices starting today. These updates not only simplify smart home control but also bring a new way to personalize your TV screen and make it easier to stay on top of your favorite sports, shows, and live programming. Here’s a closer look at what’s new.
Smart Home Control Made Easy
Google TV’s latest update introduces a new home panel, allowing you to manage all your compatible smart home devices directly from your TV. Whether it’s adjusting the thermostat, turning on the lights, or checking the front door camera, you can do it all without leaving your seat.
One of the standout features is the integration of doorbell notifications. If someone’s at the door, you’ll get a live feed on your TV screen, so you don’t have to pause what you’re watching. And if you misplace your remote, don’t worry—Google Assistant has you covered. You can control your devices with just your voice, making it more convenient to manage your home.
Improved Screensaver with AI Technology
With the improved Ambient screensaver, Google TV can now transform into a digital art canvas when it’s not in use. The new screensaver feature uses AI to generate custom designs based on your descriptions or suggested prompts. Just tell Google Assistant what you want to see, and your TV will display a unique creation.
Hide Your Digital Fingerprint
If you prefer a more personal touch, you can opt to showcase your favorite photos from Google Photos. Simply ask Google Assistant to display your memories, and your TV becomes a digital photo frame, showcasing your cherished moments.

More Ways to Watch What You Love
Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the new sports page in the “For You” tab, which consolidates all your sports content in one place. You can quickly find live games, upcoming matches, sports commentary, and YouTube highlights. Personalized recommendations ensure you won’t miss any action from your favorite teams.
Finding something to watch has also gotten easier. Google TV is introducing enhanced overviews for top movies and shows, thanks to Gemini technology. These detailed summaries include audience reviews and breakdowns by season, helping you decide what to watch next without endless scrolling.
Google TV Freeplay
Last year, Google introduced free built-in channels on Google TV, making live TV more accessible without the need for additional downloads or subscriptions. Now, with 150 channels available, Google TV Freeplay is getting an updated channel guide. This guide makes it easier to browse by genre and topic, and new channels like Heartland, The FBI Files, and ION Plus have been added.
The selection of Google TV devices is also expanding. In addition to the new Google TV Streamer, new models from Hisense and TCL are now available, as well as smart projectors from Vankyo, Epson, and XGIMI. Google TV is also launching in new regions, including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, bringing a better TV experience to more people.
