The well-known Downloader App is currently not available in the Google Play Store for Android TV Devices and Google TV Boxes.
This is due to an absurd DMCA takedown request from Warner Brothers Discovery in India.
The Downloader App is used by millions of cord-cutters daily to sideload apps and APKs that are not officially available in their device’s respective app store.
Users attempting to install this application via the Google Play Store, where it is usually located, are no longer able to do so.
When selecting the Downloader App via Google search on your device, you are met with the following error screen.

If you do a direct search for “Downloader” within the Google Play Store itself, you will notice it is completely missing from the results.

Why is Downloader Not Available in the Google Play Store?
Google has removed Downloader from the Google Play Store after a false DMCA copyright request from Ishita Singh and MarkScan in India.
MarkScan represents Warner Brothers Discovery and submitted the takedown request with absolutely no grounds for removal. Unfortunately, Google obliged the request without attempting to verify its legitimacy at all.
This is just another example of Google bending to the pressure of a ridiculous, automated claim from a foreign country.
In May of 2023, Downloader was similarly removed over an absurd DMCA takedown request from Israel’s Yes TV, stating that the app’s basic web browser allowed users to access a website that infringes their copyright. That resulted in the app being unavailable for 20 days, which caused a devastating 47% loss of active users for the developer.
You can help the developer of Downloader, Elias from AFTVNews, by retweeting the following tweet and letting Google Play know of the massive error it has made.
My Downloader app has again been wrongly removed from the @GooglePlay Store due to an absurd DMCA takedown. This time Warner Bros. Discovery @WBD in India thinks the web browser in my app somehow infringes on its copyright. Please help bring attention to how unfair this is!

Please Donate to Elias @ AFTVNews
This is the absolute worst time that this could happen, as Elias relies on donations sent through the application to maintain it. Obviously, this is the busiest time of year for the app, and this meritless removal will hurt him financially.
The Downloader app is the foundational tool for everything we do with our Android TV, Google TV, and Fire TV systems, and we need to show Elias our support during this time.
Here is a link to the official donation page for Elias on the AFTVNews Website. Please think about how much you rely on the Downloader app, and if you can make a donation, Elias would greatly appreciate it. Every little bit counts!
