Amazon Rolling Out New Interface to Firestick and Fire TV Devices
Amazon is slowly rolling out its new interface to the Firestick and Fire TV devices starting today, the company has announced.
We were aware that Amazon would begin implementing a new software update for a redesigned Fire TV interface, it was just a matter of when.
This announcement was made when they released the new Firestick Lite and 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick back in September 2020.
Amazon Releases New Firestick Lite & 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick
In a previous September press release, Amazon stated the following regarding the new Fire TV interface:
“We’re always looking for ways to enhance, evolve, and reimagine the experience to usher in the future of TV, which is why we’re excited to share that we’re rolling out our most significant experience update yet.”
Because this is a major update to Fire TV devices, it’s safe to assume that this change will slowly roll out.
If you own a Firestick Lite or 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick, you will experience this update before those using the Firestick 4K, Fire TVs, and older generation devices.
Only a small number of 2020 Firestick/Fire TV users will experience the update today, but we can expect this to roll out more in the coming days and weeks.
The last time we saw a major update to the Fire TV interface was back in 2016, which is the current interface we use today.

Below are some of the notable details regarding the new Firestick/Fire TV interface.
At first glance, it appears Amazon is focused on improving content discovery, as seen in one of their first released images.
This almost reminds us of the interface we see in the Chromecast with Google TV device that was released in 2020.
This interface also features new user profile capabilities that will allow up to six people in a household to receive personalized recommendations and other customization options.

I have a 2nd Gen Fire TV and I wonder if this update will solve the issue of sideloaded apps showing up with the grey icon instead of the proper one !! I live in hope lol
My Toshiba Fire TV does not have a “My Fire TV” icon. However, for others that may have this situation. “About” is found under the “Devices and Software” icon. It says my V 6.2.7.6 firmware is “Up to date.” However, it appears to NOT be the new firmware.
I also checked my 2nd Gen Fire TV cube which said my V 7.2.2.9 firmware is “Up to date.” However, it too is NOT the new firmware.
