If you use Trakt to sync your watch history across multiple streaming applications, a major change could disrupt your setup.

Trakt has officially announced that free accounts will now be limited to one connected community application at a time. Users who want to connect multiple third-party apps will now need a Trakt VIP subscription.
The announcement has already sparked widespread criticism throughout Reddit and other online communities, with many users saying the move undermines one of Trakt’s biggest advantages—keeping watch history synchronized across numerous media applications.
What Changed?
Previously, free Trakt accounts could authorize numerous third-party applications using OAuth authentication.
That meant users could simultaneously connect apps such as:
- Kodi
- Stremio
- Nuvio
- Infuse
- Sofa Time
- 3rd Party Addons
Beginning this week, Trakt now allows only one active Community App connection for free accounts.
When attempting to authorize a second application, users are presented with a message stating they must disconnect their existing app before connecting another.

According to Trakt, this change is intended to create a more sustainable free tier while reserving advanced functionality for VIP subscribers.
Who Is Affected?
This primarily impacts anyone who relies on Trakt as the “hub” for multiple Streaming Applications.
Under the new policy, only one of those community applications can remain connected on a free account.
Official Trakt applications, including their website and mobile apps, are not affected by this restriction. The limitation specifically targets third-party “Community Apps.”
This was all announced on the official Trakt Forum with an included apology that “We should have shared some context before this appeared.”

Reddit Users Aren’t Happy
Reactions across Reddit has been overwhelmingly negative.
Many longtime users argue that multi-app synchronization is the primary reason they use Trakt in the first place.
Several discussions quickly filled with users reporting they had been logged out of applications such as Nuvio after the policy began rolling out. Others stated they are now evaluating alternatives including Simkl, MDBList, and newer services like WeTrakr.
Some developers have also received feature requests asking them to integrate additional tracking services so users are no longer dependent on Trakt’s API restrictions.

What This Means for Trakt Users
If you only use Trakt with a single application, you likely won’t notice any difference.
However, users who authenticate Trakt across several Apps/APKs may begin seeing authorization issues when attempting to connect another application.
If you encounter authorization errors, the new one-app limitation is likely the cause.
Is There a Workaround?
At this time, there are only two official options:
- Connect just one Community App on a free Trakt account.
- Upgrade to Trakt VIP to remove the limitation and continue using multiple connected applications.
Some users are also exploring alternative tracking platforms, although support varies widely between streaming applications and many developers have not yet added compatibility beyond Trakt.
Currently, Trakt VIP costs $4-6 per month with plans for yearly and monthly subscriptions.

Final Thoughts
For years, Trakt became the standard platform for synchronizing watch history across numerous streaming applications. That flexibility is precisely what made the service valuable to Kodi and Streaming APK users.
Limiting free accounts to a single third-party connection represents one of the biggest API policy changes Trakt has made in recent years. While the company says the change helps support long-term sustainability, much of the community views it as a significant reduction in functionality for free users.
