International authorities have shut down a major piracy operation that included Boss IPTV, Guru IPTV, and several other live TV affiliates.

Users were warned they could face serious criminal charges including felony convictions and deportation for accessing these IPTV services.

Are these warnings legitimate or propaganda being spread by YuppTV and anti-piracy authorities to scare users?

The crackdown targeted an extensive piracy operation running under names like Boss IPTV, Guru IPTV, Tashan IPTV, Brampton IPTV, Vois IPTV, and others.

These services illegally streamed premium content from Star, Zee Network, Colors, Sony, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu without proper licenses.

The illegal platforms delivered pirated content through Android set-top boxes and smartphone apps while aggressively marketing across social media at prices far below legal services.

After researching it appears that YuppTV is the platform behind this complaint. This is a free live streaming platform that’s ad-supported and offers hundreds of streaming options.

Users Could Face Legal Consequences

YuppTV has filed a federal lawsuit against Boss IPTV, citing violations of US copyright law under 18 USC § 2319. The legal implications for users are severe and immediate.

According to Goldstein Law Group, representing YuppTV:

“Any subscriber using illegal IPTV pirate services may be linked to copyright infringement, a crime under U.S. federal law. Convictions may result in felony charges, and non-citizens convicted of such offenses may be subject to deportation under U.S. law.”

But the question is how can the average user determine whether a live TV service is legal or not? Especially when unverified providers make it seem like their offerings are legitimate and Google is showing these in search results.

Recent Arrests Shows Enforcement is Escalating

Law enforcement has already made significant arrests. In 2021, six individuals connected to Boss IPTV were arrested following a YuppTV complaint.

Recently, authorities arrested Mohammed Murtuza Ali for running Boss IPTV, which served over five million subscribers and generated $84 million annually.

Security Risks and Financial Damage

These illegal services pose major security threats beyond legal risks. Authorities found that pirated IPTV platforms often harvest user data, including credit card information, and connect to phishing scams and tax evasion schemes.

Some operations are even tied to organized crime that fund drug trafficking, arms dealing, terrorism, and other illegal activities.

The South Asian broadcast sector loses $200-300 million annually from IPTV piracy, severely damaging legitimate platforms.

This shutdown demonstrates ongoing enforcement against illegal IPTV operations, but users should approach these criminal charge warnings with caution.

The claims about felony charges and deportation risks appear to originate primarily from YuppTV’s legal representatives and anti-piracy groups, which may be propaganda used to scare people and discourage piracy.

After extensive research, our team could not find official legal documentation supporting the specific claims about criminal prosecution of individual users.

The only mention of legal penalties is at the end of WION’s report:

“Legal authorities suggest that to avoid the possibility of arrest and other penalties, all current users accessing pirated services immediately discontinue use and migrate to legal, licensed platforms such as YuppTV. Visit www.yupptv.com to obtain legal, authorized access to Indian content.”

This seems very suspicious to us… And as always with these situations, one service shuts down and dozens more emerge to take its place.
