Sky Forces Removal of Popular Streaming App CucoTV

The once-popular CucoTV streaming app has been forced to shut down by Sky.

CucoTV was a popular streaming app used by thousands of people from around the world.

We want to know your thoughts after reading this story in the comments below. What do you think of Sky forcing CucoTV to be removed?

The UK media giant Sky has successfully removed both the website and APK file of CucoTV from GitHub.

CucoTV was a well-known streaming app for many who wanted to stream movies, TV shows, and other VOD content.

While the streaming application did provide legal uses (public domain content) there’s a good chance many users didn’t view legal content.

In our previous CucoTV Review, TROYPOINT states the following about the use of this application:

“At first glance, it would appear that CucoTV is distributing copyrighted works without consent. If and when an application is deemed illegal, we notify our users immediately and update reports on our Website to reflect that information.”

Therefore, now that Sky has officially removed CucoTV from GitHub we are reporting that CucoTV was in fact distributing copyright works without consent and should NOT be used.

If you visit the original website for CucoTV (cucotv.github.io) you will notice the screen below. This website was hosted on GitHub.

We found this website URL from the CucoTV Twitter account, which ironically is still active and posting about watching copyrighted content on their platform.

Back in January 2022, they posted the following tweet noting CucoTV’s piracy capabilities:

Sky eventually stepped in and requested GitHub to remove both the website and “infringing” APK from the developer platform.

The UK media company submitted a DMCA takedown request noting the illegal and unauthorized content that CucoTV was offering.

The official DMCA notice on GitHub states the following:

“We are writing in the name and on behalf of Sky UK Limited, the exclusive owner of distribution and exploitation rights of the Sky UK channels. This IPTV App (CucoTV) includes illegal and unauthorized Pay Tv Sky UK tv series: Gomorra.”

At first, it didn’t appear the outcome of this takedown request from Sky was going to be successful, but now it seems to have worked.

While it’s unclear if GitHub themselves has taken any action towards CucoTV, this likely won’t be the last DMCA request coming from Sky.

What’s interesting, however, we found several tutorials that seemed to ignore Sky’s request after a quick google search. We are curious to see if any sort of action will be taken against these websites.

Will Users of CucoTV be Contacted?

It’s uncertain what’s happening behind the scenes with this latest takedown of the CucoTV streaming app.

We’ve seen pirate app developers in the past hand over user data, streaming history, and identifying IP addresses when investigated by copyright authorities. They’re also known to sell this sought-after information to other third parties.

It’s extremely important to only stream content not protected by copyright and protect yourself with a VPN.

  1. Sky needs to bring back cucotv, zinitevi, and astoncine. The apps are not bad. please bring back the apps on the github pages. I can’t find a way to download zinitevi on my iphone with out github.

  2. For good or bad, the genie is out of the bottle. As long as there is internet access and there are VPN providers, there will be new providers to replace those who close down for whatever reason. Very difficult if not impossible to control. Amazon will, sooner or later, eliminate the ability of Fire TV device owners to program these devices. This is only going to be a matter of time. Best to rethink any further acquisition of any Amazon Fire TV products. Life will go on.

they think that by closing them down that people will buy from them .guess what ill do with out before i go back to cabel

  4. The Crew is still working, but you need to reauthorize real-Debrid every time before using it that day. Sheesh!

  5. Re: CUCOTV and the Kodi addons. I kind of thought something like this would happen as soon as Microsoft bought Github. It is also a bit bold of grey-market developers to host code on Git. Microsoft is not your friend. Better to host on the darknet or pirate-***.
