YGGTorrent’s operators claim all stored passwords were hashed and salted. However, the leaked data tells a different story. Millions of older accounts were still protected with MD5 hashing and no salts, which offers very weak security by modern standards.
The hackers created a dedicated leak website where they published their findings, including claims that YGGTorrent generated millions of euros in revenue during 2025 alone.
According to the leak, the site allegedly used fake e-commerce storefronts to route payments through PayPal and Stripe before converting proceeds into cryptocurrency through mixing services like Tornado Cash.
