Stremio Returns to Google Play, Removed from Amazon/Apple App Stores

The constant cat-and-mouse game continues for the Stremio application as it has been removed from the Amazon and Apple App Stores while being reinstated to Google Play.

Just over two weeks after being pulled, users can now find Stremio available again on the Google Play Store for both Android mobile and Android TV devices.

In an official blog post, Stremio’s developers confirmed the app’s return following a 19-day suspension. While the reasons for the removal were not clearly detailed, the team stressed that the issue had been resolved and that no changes to the app’s core features were made during its absence.

Other platforms haven’t been so lucky. Amazon has quietly removed the app from its Appstore just weeks after allowing it for Fire TV and Firestick users. The official release appeared on December 16, 2025, prompting excitement among Firestick users who rely on the app for streaming.

However, the celebration was short-lived as the app vanished again from the Amazon Appstore with no official announcement.

Given Amazon’s recent crackdown on third-party media applications, the removal doesn’t come as a shock. The company has taken a more aggressive approach in recent months, not just with official listings but also with sideloaded apps.

Fire OS updates have blocked app installations from outside sources, making it harder for users to run tools like Stremio unless they modify settings or use workarounds.

iOS Users Left Without Options

Apple users are also out of luck. The Stremio app has disappeared from the App Store for iPhone and iPad users, with no indication of when — or if — it will return.

This move follows Apple’s long-standing stance on media-related apps that allow users to access content not directly sold through its own channels. While Stremio doesn’t host or provide copyrighted content, its use of add-ons and third-party extensions has often drawn unwanted attention from platform moderators.

For iOS users, this means sideloading is currently the only workaround — a much more difficult task than on Android or Firestick. Apple’s walled garden makes it difficult for average users to install apps that aren’t approved through its official store.

Still Available in the TROYPOINT Toolbox

The add/remove game isn’t going away anytime soon. As long as Stremio and similar apps offer support for third-party add-ons, they’ll keep running into issues with official app stores. These platforms want tight control over what gets installed and how users access content — even when the app itself doesn’t break any rules.

The best way to avoid the hassle of wondering whether it’s still listed on Amazon, Apple, or Google is to skip the stores altogether.

The TROYPOINT Toolbox offers the most reliable and up-to-date version of Stremio for Firestick, Fire TV, and Google/Android Boxes. You’ll always get the latest stable release without relying on store approval or risky third-party websites.
