Amazon has launched its first Fire TV Beta Access Program, letting select customers run new Fire TV software weeks early, with no way to undo the install.
The program is live on ‘select Fire TV device models in the United States,’ according to the official FAQ Amazon posted to its community forum on August 28, 2026.
Google has run early access channels for its TV software for years, so Amazon is playing catch-up.
How to Join the Fire TV Beta Access Program
There is no waitlist or application form. Head to Settings, select My Fire TV, then About, then choose the new Beta Access menu item. Enrolled devices usually pull the beta build within 24 hours when one exists for that model. Leaving takes one click on that same menu, under Opt out.
Here is the catch. Quitting stops future beta builds, but will not roll your device back. You stay on whatever version you have until the next public release catches up, normally a few weeks.
Which Fire TV Devices Are Eligible?
Amazon published no device list, and plenty of owners are not seeing the menu item yet.
AFTVnews raised the possibility that this is limited to Vega OS hardware like the Fire TV Stick 4K Select. My read is that Vega has the most to prove, since it replaced the Android base Fire OS devices ran for a decade.
Nobody is rushing to publicize it either. The entire Fire TV Beta forum section holds two threads. Testers have no homework. Surveys are not required and bug reports stay optional.

Amazon does collect usage data from testers, including your home screen navigation and settings choices. Whether that exceeds normal Fire TV tracking is not spelled out.
Final Thoughts from Troy
A beta channel is a good thing, and I would rather a broken update hit volunteers than millions of living rooms.
What sticks with me is the trade. Amazon wants us picking our device software, right up until that pick is sideloading an app it killed on new Fire TV Sticks or a third-party app it spent the year blocking. Early access to a walled garden does not open the gate.
