Jadoo TV’s legal battle with DISH Network has ended with a $24.9M judgment. The IPTV service must shut down, transfer assets, and hand over its customer lists.

DISH Network, with support from the International Broadcaster Coalition Against Piracy (IBCAP), filed its lawsuit against Jadoo TV in November 2018.
Jadoo TV’s business model involved distributing branded IPTV boxes and apps to stream exclusive content from DISH without authorization.
DISH alleged that these actions represented deliberate, multi-year copyright infringement, violating provisions under 17 U.S.C. Section 501.
Sohail’s personal involvement became a central issue. DISH argued he authorized and directed the infringing activities.
By September 2020, the court found sufficient evidence to infer Sohail’s personal role in the violations.
Jadoo TV Court Rulings and Financial Penalties
In June 2023, the court granted summary judgment against Jadoo TV and Sohail with DISH winning the lawsuit. This confirmed liability for direct, contributory, and vicarious copyright infringement.
It identified Sohail as the “guiding spirit” behind the operations.

This judgment led to a final settlement, with DISH awarded $24,969,911. The breakdown included:
- $14.55 million in statutory damages for 97 registered works.
- $10.42 million in profits related to 159 unregistered works.
Additionally, Jadoo TV and its associates must comply with a permanent injunction, halting all future copyright violations.
Asset Transfers and Permanent Injunction
The settlement requires Jadoo TV to cease operations immediately and transfer critical assets, including customer lists, trademarks, and domain names, to DISH.
Moreover, Jadoo TV agreed to pay DISH an additional $1.5 million by February 2025.
These measures aim to prevent Jadoo TV and Sohail from infringing copyright laws in the future. DISH and IBCAP emphasize that this judgment sets a precedent for similar cases, signaling severe consequences for IPTV piracy.
What’s interesting though is the Jadoo TV website is still operational and acts as if they are still in business.

Wrapping Up
The outcome of this six-year legal battle reinforces the legal risks associated with IPTV piracy.
For Jadoo TV and its CEO, the judgment marks a definitive end to their operations and serves as a cautionary tale for others in the streaming industry.
