Telegram CEO Says App Will Share User Data to Governments

Telegram’s previous policies stated that it would only share user information if a request was backed by a court order and legally binding under the jurisdiction where the platform operates.

This allowed Telegram to refuse data-sharing requests in countries with less stringent legal systems. However, the newly updated terms of service appear to widen the company’s data-sharing practices, a move likely aimed at appeasing law enforcement agencies in several countries, including France.

Elon Musk even commented on Telegram updating their Terms of Service to comply with authorities saying this was “inevitable.”
