Pirate Streaming Service MagisTV Rebrands to ‘FlujoTV’

The once popular MagisTV has rebranded to a new service called ‘FlujoTV’ even with the pressing legal issues.

Last week, the U.S. Government identified MagisTV as one of the most prominent piracy services in its annual report.

This IPTV provider, primarily popular in Latin America, offers access to live sports, TV channels, and on-demand movies through unauthorized streaming.

While its popularity has made it a household name in piracy circles, it has also attracted significant scrutiny from copyright holders and enforcement agencies worldwide.

Global Crackdown on MagisTV

The dominance of MagisTV in Latin America’s piracy ecosystem has not gone unnoticed. The service has been targeted by organizations such as the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE).

Several criminal investigations into MagisTV-linked activities are ongoing in Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Additionally, MagisTV-related websites have faced domain blocks in numerous countries.

Despite these efforts, the brand remains highly visible and accessible, partly due to its decentralized nature. Many websites operating under the MagisTV name function as reseller platforms, with some having no direct connection to each other beyond sharing the branding.

Trademark Controversy: MagisTV’s U.S. Application

Adding to the intrigue, entities linked to MagisTV have attempted to secure trademarks in various countries, including Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico, and Uruguay.

Most notably, a company named Shenzhen Huiyi Electronics filed for a trademark in the United States.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) initially granted a notice of allowance for the application. However, third parties still have the opportunity to challenge the filing.

Protests against similar trademark applications have already succeeded in countries like Ecuador, where major organizations such as Paramount Pictures, DIRECTV, and LigaPro opposed the move.

MagisTV Rebrands to FlujoTV

In an apparent effort to distance itself from mounting legal and reputational issues, MagisTV has begun rebranding as FlujoTV, or “Flow TV.”

Key websites like magistv.la and magistv-venezuela.com have adopted the new name, leaving behind the tarnished MagisTV identity.

Interestingly, the rebranding appears to have started before the USTR’s latest report, suggesting that it may not have been directly triggered by the piracy designation.

The reasons behind the name change remain unclear. Some speculate that it could be a tactic to avoid being flagged in ongoing domain-blocking campaigns. Others see it as a move to sidestep potential trademark disputes.

The Future of FlujoTV

While a new name might offer a temporary reprieve, it doesn’t change the core issues surrounding these services.

FlujoTV is still operating as an unauthorized IPTV platform, meaning enforcement efforts from copyright holders and authorities are unlikely to ease.

Whether the rebranding will protect these services from further scrutiny remains uncertain, but for now, it highlights the ongoing cat-and-mouse game between piracy operators and rights holders.
