Is the real Streameast still online? Last week brought major news in the fight against sports piracy when authorities announced the shutdown of what they called the ‘world’s largest illegal sports streaming operation.’

However, reports about the takedown contain a significant error that needs correction. Egyptian authorities raided a Streameast operation and seized roughly 80 domain names and made two arrests.
Media outlets like The Athletic reported that the original Streameast website was shut down, but this information is incorrect.
The Real Story Behind the Streameast Raids
The enforcement action actually targeted a massive copycat network that stole branding from popular pirate sites. These imposters used the Streameast name and logo to trick users into thinking they were visiting the original site.

The operator of the real Streameast quickly clarified that their site had no connection to the seized domains or to Egypt where the raids occurred. This distinction matters because it shows how copycat operations can muddy the waters in anti-piracy efforts.
According to reports, the original Streameast operator ‘Quick’ informed users that the service is still operating as usual on their communication channel.
“We are not connected to them in any way (we’re not even Egyptian). We have not been raided, and our streams and work continue as usual. As we’ve always said: Do not use fake sites!”

Even the infamous Streameast News Network posted “we haven’t been shutdown” and “they can’t stop us” on their X account. Although we’re not sure how connected this social media account is to ‘Quick’ or other Streameast operations.

USTR Focuses on Sports Streaming in 2025
The U.S. Trade Representative recently announced that sports piracy will be the main focus for its 2025 “Notorious Markets” review. This annual report identifies major piracy and counterfeiting threats worldwide and helps motivate foreign governments to take action.
The timing couldn’t be better for clearing up confusion about which sites are actually operating. Copyright holders now have until October 1 to submit their recommendations for the notorious markets list.

Original Streameast Benefits from Confusion
While copycat sites got shut down, the original Streameast continues operating and is actually seeing increased traffic. Users who previously visited the clone sites are now finding their way to the real version.
A quick Google search for ‘Streameast’ results in a Reddit thread providing alternative URLs and other sports streaming websites.

The Reddit thread then directs users to an “official mirror list” of working Streameast websites. Will authorities ever get ahead of this?

Final Thoughts
The shutdown of copycat streaming sites shows that enforcement actions can sometimes miss their intended targets, with anti-piracy authorities celebrating this as a major victory while hundreds more Streameast domains remain online.
But this raises an interesting question: how does anyone really know which Streameast is the “real” one when operators rarely reveal identities and multiple sites use identical branding?
The distinction often comes down to which site appeared first or gained the most recognition among users.
As the USTR prepares its 2025 review with a focus on sports piracy, getting the facts straight about which sites are actually operating will be more important than ever.
