Stremio App Removed from Google Play Store

The highly popular Stremio App has officially been removed from the Google Play Store for Android & Android TV Devices.

Stremio removed from Google Play

This comes just weeks after it was quietly added to the Amazon App Store, allowing Firestick and Fire TV users to install it directly without sideloading.

Stremio is a media center application that lets users stream movies, TV shows, live TV, and web channels using both official and third-party add-ons.

While it’s long been known for its user-friendly design and powerful streaming options, its reliance on community add-ons may be a factor in why the app is now missing from Google’s store.

At the time of writing, Google has not issued a public explanation for the removal. Stremio’s developers have acknowledged the takedown and posted a notice to their users via Reddit.

While they haven’t gone into detail, this isn’t the first time Google has taken action against streaming apps that support third-party content access. The most notable is Kodi which was removed from Google Play years ago and is still unavailable on most official app stores.

How to Install Stremio App

If you search for Stremio in the Play Store, you will see the only option is the “Stremio on Boot” app and not the official outlet.

Luckily, Stremio users can still download the official application via the TROYPOINT Toolbox which is always updated with the latest, most stable release.

Is the App Safe?

Many wonder whether or not the official app is unsafe since it’s removal from the official Play Store. We have seen Amazon disable various streaming apps on Firestick and Fire TV for malware/piaracy.

The Stremio app itself remains safe to use, provided you download it from the TROYPOINT Toolbox which points to the official source. As always, avoid unofficial “modded” versions that may include malware or ads.

Should You Be Concerned?

For most users, this isn’t a big problem. Removal from the Play Store doesn’t mean Stremio is illegal or dangerous — it just means Google doesn’t want to list it anymore. We’ve seen this happen to Kodi in the past as well, and it didn’t slow down its user base one bit.

The key takeaway is this: Stremio isn’t going away. It’s just taking the same path that many other third-party apps have traveled — staying alive through direct downloads instead of official app stores.

Final Thoughts

If you’re already a fan of Stremio, there’s nothing to worry about. If you’re new to the app, you can still access it with a few extra steps.

As always, make sure to stay informed, download from trusted sources, and protect your online activity with a quality VPN.
