ESPN Scores Big: NFL, WWE Deals Plus New Streaming Service

ESPN just announced three major moves – acquiring NFL Network and RedZone Channel, securing WWE’s biggest events, and launching ESPN Unlimited service this August.

ESPN Acquires NFL Assets

ESPN reached a major agreement with the NFL that will reshape sports media distribution. The deal gives ESPN control of NFL Network, RedZone Channel, and NFL Fantasy in exchange for a 10% equity stake in the sports giant.

This partnership allows ESPN to integrate these popular NFL properties into its upcoming streaming platform. RedZone will continue reaching cable and satellite customers through existing sports packages.

Meanwhile, NFL Fantasy will merge with ESPN’s fantasy platform, creating one unified service for millions of users.

The agreement includes licensing three additional NFL games per season for NFL Network. Four games will shift from ESPN’s regular schedule to the acquired network, maintaining seven total games annually on NFL Network.

Disney CEO Robert Iger called the deal a way to deliver “an even more compelling experience for NFL fans.” Commissioner Roger Goodell praised NFL Network’s legacy since 2003, noting the sale will provide “more NFL football for more fans in new ways.”

WWE Partnership Brings Premium Events

ESPN secured another major content deal by acquiring WWE’s biggest live events for five years starting in 2026. The agreement costs an average of $325 million annually, up from NBCUniversal’s previous $180 million per year.

All 10 WWE premium events will stream on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer platform. Select events will also air on ESPN’s linear networks simultaneously. This includes marquee PPV events like WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, and SummerSlam.

TKO Group’s Mark Shapiro, who previously worked at ESPN, called this partnership “our destiny.” The deal helps WWE expand its audience while giving ESPN access to younger, more diverse viewers. WWE’s audience is 38% female, with 50% of live event attendees bringing children.

ESPN Unlimited Streaming Service Launch

ESPN Unlimited launches August 21, 2025, priced at $29.99 monthly. This new sports streaming service provides access to all ESPN linear networks including ESPN+, covering approximately 47,000 live events yearly.

Subscribers get ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNEWS, and ESPN Deportes. The platform also includes programming from ESPN on ABC and various digital channels.

Bundle options with Disney+ and Hulu start at $35.99 monthly with ads or $44.99 ad-free.

A launch promotion offers the ad-supported bundle for $29.99 during the first 12 months. ESPN Select, a cheaper option at $11.99 monthly, provides 32,000+ events without linear networks.
