Big Tech Gets Another Copyright Pass Due to ‘National Security’

President Trump recently declared that AI companies shouldn’t be required to pay for copyrighted content used in training their models.

Speaking at the “Winning the AI Race” summit, Trump argued this approach is necessary to keep America competitive against China.

This stance represents another instance of government officials allowing big tech to sidestep copyright laws under the guise of ‘national security.’

The Slippery Slope of ‘National Security’

Trump’s position mirrors a troubling pattern where tech giants receive special treatment when it comes to intellectual property rights.

The president stated that paying for copyrighted material used in AI training is “not doable” and would hamper American competitiveness.

“You can’t be expected to have a successful AI program when every single article, book or anything else that you’ve read or studied, you’re supposed to pay for,” Trump explained during his remarks.

“I was told before I got up here, this is an unpopular thing because some people, they don’t want that. But I want you to be successful,” he told attendees.
