YuppTV Files Lawsuit Against Pirate IPTV Cartel in Federal Court

YuppTV has filed a federal copyright lawsuit targeting what it calls the “Boss IPTV Cartel.”

Pirate IPTV Cartel Sued. by YuppTV

This is a network of illegal streaming services that allegedly pirated South Asian content for years.

The complaint, filed in Pennsylvania federal court, names multiple defendants including IPTV operators, content delivery networks, and equipment manufacturers.

We first heard about this situation last week when YuppTV threatened Boss IPTV users with criminal charges.

The Boss IPTV Investigation

YuppTV’s investigation began before 2020, focusing on Canada-based Harpreet Singh Randhawa as the alleged mastermind behind multiple IPTV services.

The streaming platform claims Randhawa operated several brands that illegally broadcast licensed content across the United States and Canada.

The lawsuit describes how these services used common piracy tactics like rebranding and domain switching to avoid detection.

International Enforcement Actions

In March 2021, YuppTV worked with Indian cyber-crime investigators, leading to raids and six arrests.

Among those detained were Sumit Sharma, allegedly a director of Rhysley Pvt. Ltd, and Harminder Sandhu, connected to Calgary-based Server Center Ltd.

CDN Provider Named as Defendant

Datacamp (CDN77) faces allegations of knowingly providing infrastructure for the piracy operation.

YuppTV claims the CDN company received DMCA takedown notices starting in 2020 but failed to take sufficient action against repeat infringers.

The lawsuit details how Boss IPTV platforms relied on Datacamp’s geographically distributed network to deliver pirated content efficiently.

DMCA Notice Issues

Copies of DMCA notices (PDF) included in the lawsuit show potential problems with the takedown requests.

Many URLs contain placeholder “X” characters, suggesting YuppTV may not have had complete information about the infringing content locations.

The lawsuit also targets Allstream Business Inc., allegedly providing dedicated servers hosting Boss IPTV websites, and Infomir, accused of supplying MAG set-top boxes with Ministra Pro middleware to the piracy operation.

Final Thoughts

While this lawsuit represents a short-term victory for YuppTV and copyright holders, the reality is that new Boss IPTV websites have already appeared online.

The piracy ecosystem remains robust, with hundreds of other illegal IPTV services continuing to operate.

This case demonstrates how shutting down one operation often leads to others quickly filling the void, making copyright enforcement an ongoing challenge rather than a permanent solution.
