Police in Thailand have conducted several raids on a pirate streaming operation with two suspects eventually arrested.
The Thai government’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has conducted a major operation targeting the supply of pirated Premier League football streams, illegal gambling, and associated money laundering.
This operation involved 21 raids across five regions of the country, including one targeting an office hidden in a car wash.

This is partly due to Thailand’s strict prohibition of most forms of gambling, which drives organized crime to offer illegal gambling opportunities, often linked with pirated content.

Police Raids
The DSI’s investigation uncovered a network of websites broadcasting live Premier League matches for free. These streams were used to lure potential gamblers, who were then targeted with banner ads and links to gambling sites, some operated from other countries.
According to the DSI, Thai nationals and foreigners, mostly poor with no fixed jobs, operated over 100 ‘mule’ accounts to process revenue from illegal gambling.

A joint operation on July 31, conducted under the Ministry of Home Affairs, saw the DSI and the Minburi Metropolitan Police raiding 21 locations across several regions of Thailand.
The suspects reportedly operated around 10 websites from an office in the Minburi district of Bangkok.

During the raids, authorities arrested two suspects, identified as Mr. Athiwat and Mr. Yutthaphong, in front of the Songkhla Provincial Court.
The suspects are accused of violating copyrights for commercial purposes by publishing creative works such as movies and artworks without permission.
They are also believed to be programmers responsible for running the servers used to provide the pirated match streams and managing ‘mule’ accounts for money transfers. One suspect is further accused of receiving money from gambling websites.

A video released by authorities on social media shows a press conference and clips from one of the raided locations, which appears to be a car wash.
According to separate information, this car wash may have been involved in the supply and distribution of pirated Premier League streams.

The large scale of the law enforcement response suggests that washing cars was likely not the primary business of this location.
Images from the raids, including a significant number of graphics cards, hint at additional offenses that may be announced later.
The DSI has warned those involved or suspects with arrest warrants intending to flee to surrender or provide information, emphasizing that no offenders will be exempt from prosecution.
