Surfshark Launches “Alternative Number” for Anonymous Calls/Texts

A new feature from Surfshark has officially been launched to pair with their fabulous Alternative ID product.

This new feature adds an extra layer of security with “Alternative Number” which will provide you with a new, anonymous phone number that you can use for any reason you prefer.

Users are given a virtual phone number that will mask their real number and help avoid spam, data leaks, online censorship, and more.

This bonus feature is a paid product that can be used for receiving phone calls or responding to messages for US Customers only (so far).

Uses for Alternative Phone Number

1. Hide Your Number from Online Entities

Oftentimes, we are required to provide our phone number when selling products/services online. With an Alternative Number, you don’t have to input your real phone number so your info stays private.

Many websites and services need personal information such as your phone number for discounts or other information. If you are worried about spam calls and messages, use your alternative number to screen these!

How to Get Alternative Number from Surfshark

In order to get alternative number, you must register for this service on their website. Follow the guide below to do so.

1. Sign up for Surfshark VPN with Discount if you don’t already have an account.

2. Login to your Surfshark account and from the main screen, select Alternative ID.

3. Find Alternative number.

4. Choose Add to plan and input your payment credentials.

5. After payment has processed, choose Set up.

6. Click Generate number.

7. You are then provided with your New Alt number!

After initiating your new phone number, you can set it up for use within your phone’s mobile application.

How to Use/Set Up Alternative Number

In this guide, we will show you how to set up and use the latest feature from Surfshark on an iPhone but these instructions also work for Android and other devices as well.

1. Open the Surfshark App and select Alternative Id.

2. Choose Start.

3. Click Allow.

4. Select allow again.

5. If your Settings launch, choose Notifications.

6. Turn on the toggle to Allow Notifications.

7. Your alternative phone number is now active!

8. Messages to your alternative number will appear in the Alt ID Phone tab.

9. Phone calls will show up as native calls as pictured below and not in the Surfshark app.
