The Department of Justice (DOJ) has successfully shut down 247TVStream, a large-scale pirate IPTV service that offered over 1,000 channels, primarily catering to sports fans.
The service, allegedly operated by brothers Noor Nabi Chowdhury and Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman, ran from May 2017, generating millions in revenue while causing significant financial harm to copyright holders.
The operation culminated in the arrest of Chowdhury in New York earlier this week. He faces multiple charges, including conspiracy, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft.
His brother Rahman, who resides in Bangladesh, remains at large. The charges carry severe penalties, with potential sentences totaling decades in prison for the defendants.
247TVStream Operation
247TVStream provided unauthorized access to live TV and sports programming via various platforms, including dedicated apps and devices.
Subscribers paid as little as $10 per month for access, with the service amassing over $7 million in revenue during its operation.
The IPTV service was marketed heavily toward sports fans seeking affordable, alternative viewing options.

Efforts to mask the operation included using shell companies and falsified documentation, deceiving payment processors and other third parties.
International Cooperation and Seizures
The investigation and subsequent takedown were the result of international collaboration between U.S., Dutch, Canadian, and UK law enforcement agencies.
Authorities seized domain names associated with 247TVStream, including tvschedule24.com and 247tvstream.com.
Visitors to these sites now encounter a notice from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announcing the seizure.
The DOJ estimates the service caused more than $100 million in damages to copyright holders. This includes broadcasters and other rights holders impacted by the illegal distribution of their content.
U.S. Attorney Breon Peace emphasized the commitment to combating intellectual property theft, underscoring the broader implications for the digital economy.
Potential Prison Sentences
If convicted, the brothers face extensive prison terms:
- Wire fraud: Up to 20 years
- Conspiracy related to illegal streaming: Up to 5 years
- Identity theft: Mandatory 2 years
