An Unknown Error Has Occurred – Check Your URL & Connection Fix

An unknown error has occurred. Check your url and connection

This post will show you how to fix “An unknown error has occurred.  Check your URL and connection” within Downloader.

Downloader is the most popular application that allows side-loading APKs onto the Amazon Fire TV or Firestick.  This free application is used most notably when installing Kodi, Terrarium TV, and SET TV on the Fire TV or Fire TV Stick.

You may encounter the above error on the Fire TV 3 when attempting to download or install applications that aren’t available within the Amazon App store.  The reason for this error is because permissions aren’t granted for file access upon first installing the Downloader application.

If you don’t allow for Downloader to access files on your Fire TV, there is now way for the application to download and install applications.

If you are receiving this error, refer to the following screenshot guide for a quick fix.

  2. Greetings! I need help. I have several devices, Fire TV Stick, Google Chromecast, Tivo, and Onn TV box 4K among others. The thing is that the last one I mentioned allows me to install Downloader, but when I enter a URL I receive the message unknown error has occurred. check your url and connection and another message there was a problem parsing the package. I did a hard reset, clear cache and everything I read and found on Google and YouTube. I have already activated allow unknown sources and everything required to use Downloader but I still receiving the same messages. I can’t even install Google Play Store. Thank you very much.

Hi Bert, I would first suggest clearing the app data/cache for Downloader and if that doesn’t work try a quick device restart

  5. Hi I have had this issue when my Wi Fi receiver in the android box was giving low download speeds even though I have gigabit broadband. I connected box on ethernet cable and downloader worked. The only way I can use the box is on ethernet as Wi Fi section is faulty.

  7. I have a Fire TV. When using Downloader to try and install the Troypoint Rapid App Installer, after entering “troypoint.com/tpapp” and selecting “Go” I get the error message ‘Error: Forbidden. Try using https if you used http’.
I have retried with “https://troypoint.com/tpapp” and “http://troypoint.com/tpapp”, buit get the same error message.
I have unistalled and reinstalled the Downloader app and aldso confirmed that allow unknown sources for Downloader is definitely “On”, but this makes no difference.

    1. Hi Steve, a few things. You must be on Android 6 or higher. If using an older version of Android, this won’t work. Try rebooting your router, and streaming device and try again.
