Amazon recently pushed out an update to their Fire TV Sticks and Fire TV which includes some privacy settings that you should be aware of.
When you go into Fire TV Settings / Preferences, you will see two areas that you should explore. Once is named “Privacy Settings” and the other is named “Data Monitoring”.
I have turned off all of these options except for “Interest-based Ads”. I leave this one on since I would rather be shown ads that pertain to what interests me. We are going to see ads regardless so it might as well be something relevant.
I have never liked the idea of sending usage data back to the companies associated with these various products whether it be Amazon, Google, Apple, Microsoft, etc.
It seems that big brother is now trying to analyze our data but at least Amazon is now giving us the ability to deactivate these in the settings area of the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV.

For additional security and to keep your Internet Service provider from monitoring your online activity, you should also be using a VPN for all Internet-connected devices.

IMPORTANT: If you’re trying to install unverified apps into your Firestick or Fire TV from the Amazon App Store, you can only complete it by side-loading or installing anything into your device without using the official app-distribution method. I recommend using a VPN to install such apps. Click this link to learn how to install a VPN for Firestick, Fire TV, Fire TV Cube.
