ACE Targets More Pirate IPTV Services, Apps, and Portals

The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) has initiated a series of new subpoenas targeting more IPTV services, piracy apps, and streaming portals.

You can find the full list of targeted IPTV services, streaming apps, and portals towards the end of this article.

These subpoenas, intended to gather information on the operators behind these platforms, mark a significant step in ACE’s ongoing battle against piracy.

Following the departure of Jan Van Voorn, the MPA’s former Chief of Global Content Protection, ACE experienced a temporary lull in its legal actions. However, this hiatus ended with the recent filing of several new subpoena requests in a California federal court.

These requests, now signed by Dani Bacsa, the MPA’s Deputy Chief of Content Protection, seek information from Cloudflare and the .To domain registry (Tonic) related to multiple domain names associated with pirated content.

Targeting Pirate Streaming Sites

Among the most notable targets is Anitaku, an anime streaming site that garnered over 125 million visits between March and May. Other sites, such as Goojara and KickassAnime, also feature prominently in the subpoenas due to their substantial traffic.

In total, ACE is targeting 17 pirate streaming site domains, with the aim of uncovering the identities and locations of their operators.

Piracy Apps and IPTV Services Under Scrutiny

ACE’s crackdown extends beyond streaming sites to include domains offering downloads for piracy apps like ‘Gold Core App’, ‘Live NetTV’, ‘RedPlay’, and ‘MagisTv’.

IPTV portals such as Atlaspro, Newtelevision, and Honeybeeiptv are also in ACE’s crosshairs. Notably, Honeybeeiptv is particularly popular in Singapore, where it ranks highly in the Computers and Technology category.

The Subpoena Process and Its Impact

Through these subpoenas, ACE and the MPA hope to compel Tonic and Cloudflare to disclose identifying information about the individuals behind these domains.

This information could include names, physical addresses, IP addresses, email addresses, payment information, and account histories. However, operators of pirate sites often anticipate these subpoenas and provide false information to evade detection.

Despite these challenges, Dani Bacsa asserts that the subpoena process remains a valuable tool for uncovering the identities of those behind large-scale piracy operations.

While the MPA does not disclose its success rate, Bacsa notes that subpoenaed information has proven effective in multiple instances.

In addition to legal actions, ACE and the MPA advocate for stronger verification procedures by online intermediaries. Bacsa suggests that intermediaries should adopt ‘Know Your Business Customer’ (KYBC) policies to verify the legitimacy of their business customers.

Implementing KYBC policies would not only ensure legal compliance but also enhance security, prevent fraud, and protect the reputations of intermediaries by mitigating associated risks.

Conclusion

The recent subpoenas issued by ACE and the MPA represent a renewed commitment to combating online piracy. By targeting a broad range of platforms, from streaming sites to piracy apps and IPTV services, ACE aims to disrupt the operations of those who profit from pirated content.
