Popular Free IPTV App LiveNetTV Permanently Shut Down

One of the most popular free live TV APKs in the cord-cutting community, LiveNetTV, has officially been shut down for good.

For nearly a decade, LiveNetTV was a staple app installed on millions of Android TV boxes and Amazon Firesticks. Known for offering hundreds of free live channels from around the world, the ad-supported app was a go-to choice for many cord-cutters.

Users originally noticed the app’s streams going dark back in February. While the app still opened and thumbnails loaded, none of the live channels would play. At the time, the developers went completely silent, leading many to assume they had abandoned the project under legal pressure.

Now, the mystery has been solved. The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) has officially announced a settlement with the app’s operators following a police raid in Turkey.

According to a press release shared with TorrentFreak, ACE tracked down the two operators of LiveNetTV (identified only as A.B. and R.B.) in Istanbul, Turkey.

However, ACE wasn’t the first to knock on their doors. Based on a criminal complaint filed by Motion Picture Association (MPA) members, local Turkish police and a court-appointed expert executed a search and seizure on the operators in late February.

Following the police raid, the operators immediately pulled the plug on the live streams.

Four months later, in late June, the operators officially signed a settlement with ACE. As part of the agreement, the developers issued a public apology regarding their operations:

“What started as a way to make money online quickly got out of hand. We didn’t fully appreciate the legal consequences or the impact our actions would have. Looking back, the financial gains were simply not worth everything we’ve lost.”

Domains Transferred to the MPA

As part of the settlement, the operators were forced to hand over ten of their domain names to the Motion Picture Association.

For years, users visited these domains to download the LiveNetTV APK directly. Now, anyone visiting domains like livenettv.net or livenettv.xyz will be automatically redirected to ACE’s “Watch Legally” anti-piracy page.

Interestingly, Amazon had previously targeted LiveNetTV, attempting to disable the sideloaded app on Fire TV devices last year. However, the developers actively fought back, releasing new versions of the APK that successfully bypassed Amazon’s countermeasures. Ultimately, it was the real-world police raid that brought the service to an end.

What Should LiveNetTV Users Do?

If you still have LiveNetTV installed on your Firestick, Android TV Box, or mobile device, you should uninstall it immediately. The app is entirely dead and will not be returning. Keeping defunct third-party apps on your device only takes up valuable storage space and can pose potential security risks as the domains change hands.
