U.S. Court Approves $97K Fine for Pirating Adult Content

A U.S. federal court has approved three sizable default judgments this week, totaling more than $200,000 for pirating adult content.

U.S. Court Approves Fine for Pirating Adult Content

Strike 3 Holdings, a major adult entertainment company, has once again come out ahead in its ongoing legal campaign against BitTorrent users accused of piracy.

These cases are part of a much larger effort. Since launching its legal strategy, Strike 3 has filed over 15,000 lawsuits across the U.S. The goal is to penalize individuals accused of downloading and sharing copyrighted content using BitTorrent.

Defendants Skip Court, Face Heavy Fines

In the latest round of cases, the defendants didn’t respond to the lawsuits or appear in court. That decision came at a steep cost.

U.S. District Judge Steven Grimberg granted default judgments against all three, meaning the cases were decided without hearing their side. Here’s the breakdown of what each person was ordered to pay:

  • A. Salomon: $97,500 for 130 infringed works (Court PDF)
  • H. Alexander: $86,250 for 115 works (Court PDF)
  • K. Forbes: $26,250 for 35 works (Court PDF)

Although copyright law allows for damages as high as $150,000 per work, Strike 3 requested only $750 each — the minimum amount for non-willful infringement.

In addition to financial penalties, Judge Grimberg issued a permanent injunction against each defendant. That order requires them to stop pirating Strike 3’s films and destroy any copies they might still have.

Why These Judgments Matter

While the majority of Strike 3’s lawsuits end in quiet settlements or get dismissed, this week’s rulings show the real risk of ignoring legal action. Defaulting — or failing to respond — makes it easier for the court to side with the plaintiff.

Strike 3 filed nearly 4,000 lawsuits in 2024 alone. These three cases are a small sample, but they show why the company keeps pursuing this legal strategy. Even at reduced damage requests, the returns can be substantial.

Final Notes

These court decisions highlight the importance of responding to legal claims, even if they seem minor. Taking action early can help avoid costly outcomes like default judgments.

Individuals should also be aware of the risks associated with torrenting copyrighted works. Torrent technology should only be used to access files in the public domain.
