This short guide will show you how to Reset any Firestick or Fire TV device to factory settings in seconds.

Resetting your Amazon Firestick to factory default settings is one of the best ways to reboot the system and make it run faster. A clean reset will erase all installed applications and tools, meaning it will be as good as new.
You must be aware the resetting your Fire TV to factory settings is not the same as restarting/rebooting the device.
When you reset your device, you will be erasing everything on the system. After your system reboots, you will need to reinstall all your old applications.
Sometimes a factory reset of your Amazon Firestick is necessary, as a quick reboot does not always fix the underlying issues on your device.
How to Reset Your Firestick or Fire TV
There are two methods to resetting an Amazon Firestick or Fire TV:
- Press the Right and Back buttons together on your Firestick remote for at least 10 seconds
- Reset manually from the Fire TV Settings
We provide step-by-step screenshot tutorials for both of these methods below. We are using an Amazon Firestick 4K Max in these examples.
Method One – Firestick Remote Shortcut for Resetting
The process of resetting a Firestick with your remote will usually take less than a minute, and sometimes you can’t access your Fire TV settings due to a frozen screen. Just follow these quick steps to reset your device.

3. That’s it! After initiating a factory reset on your Firestick this process will take a few minutes.

Method Two – Reset from Fire TV Settings
If the remote shortcut is not working for whatever reason, you can reset your Firestick manually within the device settings. Follow the screenshots below to perform a factory reset manually.
1. From your Fire TV home screen, hover over the hamburger icon and click Settings on the bottom left.

Troy’s Final Thoughts
A factory reset is the fastest way to clear out storage problems, app crashes, and sluggish performance on your Firestick or Fire TV.
Just remember that this process will erase everything on the device, so be prepared to reinstall your apps and go through the setup wizard again. If a simple restart fixes the issue, there’s no need to go through a full reset.

Hi,
I want to reset my Firestick, but every time I try both methods it is asking for “Prime Video PIN”. When I enter the PIN, it still will not proceed and keeps asking for the PIN. How can I disable the PIN requirement? It is very annoying. Thank you in advance.

Hey Troypoint.
A friend of mine has a frozen home screen and the remote does nothing. She tried the right curser/back button trick to no avail. I want to help her fix it if it’s possible. Do you have any other tricks up your sleeve? Have you encountered this before? This might be 1st generation. Not sure if that’s relevant or not.
Hey Jack,
Did you make sure that the batteries in the remote are functioning?
I can not get the Mouse app to work with my remote or with a mouse. I have tried all the suggestions published to date. I have also tried Version 1.06 and the other one to no avail.
Can you help me out?
My Firestick is stuck on the Amazon screen.

My Firestick 4K will not go to factory settings. I select “factory reset” it blinks and goes right back to the “factory reset” screen.
My 4k firestick was reset, how can I get your rapid app installer to reload my unit.
Hello Sonny, here is the tutorial – https://troypoint.com/rapid-app-installer/
At 77 years old I am new to a lot of this firestick stuff but I am always confident that no matter what happens I will be ale to find my way back by using your tutorials . I think of your directions as my bible. so thanks a lot for the help and the confidence it gives me.
I have attempted to use any third-party launchers on my Firestick since prior to news about Amazon’s most recent updates blocking third-party launchers, although I do follow Troypoint Insider emails almost daily as I receive them. I have seen the factory reset instruction links, but no topics on how easy it will be to re-install Amazon updates up to a specific point, making sure you don’t install the 3rd party blocker updates.
I can’t recall if Amazon update version is listed next to pending update as I’ve had my settings on auto-update for past 6-8 months.
Do you know approx. how many Amazon updates need to install as of today, after a factory reset on 4K Firestick? Is there a chance Amazon will consolidate their updates at some point (like Windows) to include the 3rd party blocking updates & you are screwed?
I just wanted to say thank you for everything!!! I’m older, and don’t really understand a lot, but you spoon feed info in a way that even I can do it (sort of), but I’ve learned a lot. I just wanted to thank you. Also, you should write a digital magazine, I know I’d subscribe whatever the cost, because, you’re just that good. This is all for real, and you deserve to know.

Much appreciated Stef!
