The pirates behind the biggest free sports streaming sites saw this bust coming years ago, and they quietly built their escape hatch on a registry the U.S. government cannot touch.

Federal authorities just seized more than 100 additional pirate sports domains, the second wave of the same Department of Justice sweep that grabbed nearly 400 World Cup streaming domains a couple of weeks back.
The freshly seized batch reads like a who’s who of free sports: Buffstreams, Sportsurge, Footybite, Totalsportek, NFLBite, and the ever-resilient Streameast. The operators had backup sites parked and ready before the first domain ever fell.

Streaming Pirates Planned Their Escape Years Ago
While U.S. registrars hand over seized .app, .net, and .live domains without much fuss, these crews quietly registered .ir domains in Iran as their insurance policy long before this crackdown began.
Sites like buffstreams.ir and sportsurge.ir already resolve to the exact same Ukrainian server (45.12.1.108) that powered the seized versions, so nothing actually went dark for the end user.
Those Iranian backups were registered nearly three years before this operation launched, which means the operators expected the raid before the World Cup even kicked off.

Why Iran Makes These Sites Untouchable
The .ir registry (IRNIC) sits under Tehran’s Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences. U.S. sanctions block American registrars from touching those names, and nobody expects Iran to voluntarily honor a DOJ takedown request.
So while the government celebrates another round of seized domains, the real traffic keeps flowing through addresses no American court order can reach. The pirates picked that registry on purpose.
Hide Your Digital Fingerprint
This is the endless game of streaming whac a mole, and it never seems to end. We watched the identical pattern when Streameast lost its main domains and again when Buffstreams and VipBox got hit.

Final Thoughts from Troy
Backup domains registered three years before the raid tell you the operators are not scrambling to react, they are steps ahead of anti-piracy enforcement. Seizing a hundred domains barely scratches an operation that already has its next hundred queued up on a registry.
If you would rather watch sports without dodging seizures and risking your privacy with unverified sites, look at verified sports streaming apps and  live TV services.
