If you are an Android TV/Google TV user, some exciting news is headed your way as Google has officially announced the launch of Android TV 14 OS.
This announcement came at Google’s I/O Conference and detailed the latest updates and features we can expect from this new operating system.
Most of the Android Boxes we use today currently have Android TV 12 OS which was released in 2021. Google began working on Android TV 13 but ultimately abandoned it to pursue Android 14.
If you visit the official developer page for Android TV 13 you will see the following note:
Note: Android 13 for TV is a developer release only and won’t be delivered to consumer devices.
Luckily, the Android TV Operating System will finally receive an update as Android TV 14 “brings the improvements from Android 13 to compatible consumer devices along with improvements of its own”, as noted in the Developer Page for Android TV 14.
While full details of this new release are not yet available, we can expect a few welcome changes that were noted at the Google I/O Conference.
The biggest improvement is the new Energy Mode capabilities that provide 3 different energy-saving options which are pictured below.

Users can also expect upgraded accessibility such as color correction, enhanced text options, and improved navigation via remote shortcuts.
Many will enjoy the added PIP (Picture-in-Picture) mode for various streaming apps and smart home tools which will be available on “qualified Android 14 TV models”.
