It’s been reported that SuperFlix and other popular streaming sites have been shut down by the Brazilian authorities.
SuperFlix was one of the most popular streaming websites in Brazil with over 22 million monthly visitors worldwide.
The original SuperFlix website is currently offline, meaning Brazilian authorities have shut down the servers or arrested the operator.
This isn’t much of a surprise to some, as this streaming site has been on the radar of the Motion Pictures Association (MPA) and other organizations for a while now.
According to reports, the domains of the other targeted streaming websites have not been made public.
However, there is speculation that the targeted domains are well-known torrent websites.
Over the past few months, we’ve seen government authorities continue to take down popular streaming websites/apps.
Although this is a victory for Brazilian authorities and copyright holders, it only seems logical that this “cat and mouse” game of shutting down streaming sites/apps will continue in the near future.
For more information on these shutdowns, you can view the official press release from the Brazilian government website.
Will Users of SuperFlix and Other Websites be Contacted by Authorities?
It’s uncertain what’s happening behind the scenes with this latest targeting of SuperFlix and these other streaming websites.
We’ve seen website operators hand over user data, streaming history, and identifying IP addresses to the authorities in the past. They’re also known to sell this sought-after information to other third parties.
It’s extremely important to only stream content not protected by copyright and protect yourself with IPVanish VPN.
These website operators & authorities can do anything they want to with your streaming history and identifying IP Addresses.
A VPN masks your IP Address and encrypts your connection to the Internet which makes you anonymous.
Also, your Internet service provider can’t see what you’re accessing online since your connection is encrypted.
See our VPN Resource Guide for more information.
Overall, it will be interesting to see what happens with the operators of SuperFlix and if more countries start to crackdown on streaming sites like Brazil.
We will keep our visitors informed as more news arrives on the situation.
