New Fire TV Stick 2 Preview

The new Fire TV Stick 2 will come with a quad-core processor, which is a nice upgrade from the dual-core processor on the current device.  In my opinion, this is the best feature update that the new Fire TV Stick will receive.  This new processing power will definitely provide us Kodi users with a snappier experience which should be very noticeable.  The new processor within the new Fire TV Stick 2 will be the MediaTek Quad-core ARM 1.3 GHz.

Another nice feature upgrade is the Wi-Fi improvement.  One of the biggest complaints that you currently hear from Fire TV Stick users is the lack of Wi-Fi strength within the current Amazon Fire TV Stick.  The new Fire TV Stick 2 will support faster Wi-Fi (2X2 802.11ac MIMO 802.11a/b/g/n/ac).

For those of you Alexa fans, you will be happy to see that the new Fire TV Stick 2 comes with an Alexa Voice Remote, which will be a nice replacement to the cheap remote that comes default on the first generation device.

New Fire TV Stick 2 Alexa RemoteThe new Alex remote allows Fire TV Stick 2 owners to launch and control content with the remote by simply speaking into the microphone on the remote.   The remote also works well when searching for various items that you would normally search the Internet for.  My kids will spend hours on the couch asking Alexa some pretty crazy questions and they they die laughing when they hear her answers.

For those of you who currently own an Amazon Echo, you will be very familiar with the commands that you will be able to use on the New Fire TV Stick 2 Alexa Remote.  Alexa is considered the brains behind the Amazon Echo so it is kind of like having two products within one.

New Fire TV Stick 2 Does Not Support 4K

Unfortunately, the New Fire TV Stick 2 will still not support 4K videos but that is probably to be expected with the low price tag and small design.  I personally do not get too caught up in the difference between 4K and 1080p video so this is definitely not a deal-breaker for me.

This new version isn’t going to stop people from installing kodi is it? I want to buy one but I’m hesitant as installing kodi is the only reason I even want a fire stick.

No, you can still install Kodi on Fire TV Stick 2.

hi troy, as i am from the u.k & as yet this new stick is not on the uk amazon site, i would like to know if the
power plug on the u.s models are a 2 pin plug or 3 pin as is the standard for all electrical devices in the u.k,
it would be pointless for me to pre-order from the us amazon site if the power plug is not a 3 pin plug, i would like to order the new stick but may need to upgrade to the fire tv box as i do not know when new stick
will be available in the u.k, for the price i think the new stick is a bargain & being quad core will be more
reliable for use with Kodi, your advice will be greatly appreciated.
    many thanks David.

What do I have to get for live tv on Kodi and how?

In addition to my 1st gen. fire stick, I have a Matricom G box Q2 and the extra ram really doesn’t seem to make a difference. Could that be due to my fast internet connection with a very good signal? If so, I will save money by buying the new firestick instead of investing in another android box.

  8. Stu Sil September 29, 2016 at 12:06 am - Reply

I understand there is some litigation pending to ban the box.

    • Troy October 3, 2016 at 11:28 am - Reply

Stu, there is a lawsuit in Europe where they are going after a guy who has been selling them with all of the Kodi addons loaded up.

I just preordered because you said it was a good deal and I believe you.

Bert, I pre-ordered too so we are in the same boat. Thanks for being a subscriber and Fire Unleashed Member!

New stick is 1GB memory vs 2GB for the box. How would the additional memory help? I’m not a gamer and currently have the box version of Amazon Fire.

    • Troy September 28, 2016 at 3:18 pm - Reply

Hi Barry, one of the big benefits of increased ram is the option to have Kodi Media Center use the ram to download some of the video to which helps wit buffering. Also, helps with system processes in the background making the Fire TV quicker.
