This detailed tutorial will show you how to setup a website on WordPress. One of the best ways to earn extra income in your spare time is by building your own website or blog that focuses on a certain passion or hobby that you are interested in. All of my websites are built off the WordPress platform and I would NEVER choose anything else. I think of WordPress as a “gift from the gods” as it has provided me with thousands of dollars of income over the years.
I am currently running two Web sites during my spare time and they are TROYPOINT and Fire Unleashed. Each of these sites is build with WordPress but serve completely different objectives. My TROYPOINT site provides tutorials on tech related projects and Fire Unleashed is a membership site/e-course for all thing relating to streaming devices. Each of these sites combined, bring in some nice passive income each month and I am getting paid for something that I enjoy doing.
The best thing about WordPress is that it is 100% free and as of this writing, it is responsible for approximately 24% of all websites on the Internet today.
A WordPress website will provide you with an opportunity to earn passive income, which will allow you to stop trading dollars for hours. There are hundreds of ways to monetize a website or blog and this is your first step to creating an income stream that will work for you 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
The reason why I use WordPress is because I can extend its functionality by using plugins that can literally do anything you can think of. After you build your website, you will come up with all kinds of ideas and the thousands of WordPress plugins (most of them are free), will help you get the job done. Unfortunately, the other website builders that you see often advertised simply don’t have the extended functionality that WordPress has.
In this tutorial, I will be setting up a WordPress website on Bluehost which is a hosting company that will provide us with a server where we can install our website or blog. Bluehost is the hosting company that I use for this website (troypoint.com) and they are also recommended by WordPress.
Before we get started with the tutorial on setting up a WordPress website or blog, we need to register for an account at Bluehost. Use the step-by-step instructions below to get up and running quickly.
Register For An Account With Bluehost
Step 2 Select your plan. After you click the link above, you will be presented with Bluehost’s Web site. Click the button on the site that reads “Get Started Now” or “Get Started”. Unless you are planning on building multiple Web sites, I strongly suggest that you choose the “basic” plan to start with. In the future, you can always upgrade when needed. In the video tutorial below, I am using the “basic plan”.
Step 3 After you select which plan you want to purchase, the first thing that you need to do is input the domain name that you want to use. Don’t spend too much time on this. This is one of those simple steps that people spend days thinking about and it hinders their progress and nothing gets done.
In my tutorial, I have registered the domain name “wpwebsetup.com”. I will be using this Web site throughout all of my tutorials that I cover with you in the future.
You will notice that I am using the abbreviation in my domain name “wp” for WordPress. Do not include the name of a trademarked company within your domain name as it could cause problems down the road. Instead of referring to my site as “wordpresswebsetup.com”, I used an abbreviation for WordPress to squash any copyright problems in the future.
You will notice that when you input a name within their “new domain” box, it will tell you whether or not it is available after you click the “next” button.
Lastly, I always like choosing a .com domain extension since this is what most people think a domain should be. It may help for marketing purposes in the future and be more memorable if you stick with .com but, this is whatever you prefer, not a huge deal.
Step 4 Input your account information and make sure that you input a valid email address since important information will be sent to that address.
Step 5 Choose a package. You will see that you will get a nice discount for the longer that you pre-pay for. For my website, I will be signing up for a 12-month plan.
IMPORTANT: You don’t need any of the extra features that they are trying to sell you. Go ahead and uncheck each of the additional options. If you ever need to add these in the future, you will be able to do that.
Step 6 Input your payment information and click the “submit” button.
Step 7 Choose a password for your account. Click the button that reads “create your password” and input a password for your account.
IMPORTANT: Write down the password that you submit so you can login once the tutorial below begins.
Step 8 Follow the instructions within the video below to install WordPress.
