Beelink GT1 Ultimate Review

This Beelink GT1 Ultimate Review was written by Troy from TROYPOINT after extensively using this Android Kodi Box for two weeks.

The Beelink GT1 Ultimate comes in a small size, measuring at only 96 mm wide and 96 mm long.  The top of the device sports a sleek-looking triangle glossy pattern which adds a nice touch.  This device would appear as a state-of-the-art streaming box within anyone’s entertainment center.

The remote that comes with the Beelink GT1 Ultimate is different than your typical Android TV Box remotes.  This one includes buttons for your television such as power, volume up, and volume down.  To use the television buttons, you must use the learn button on the remote with the proper codes for your specific tv brand.  The remote also includes a mouse toggle button, a delete button, volume up/down buttons, and a settings button to name a few.  I enjoy using this remote due to the additional options.

The user interface is very easy to use and includes a “My Favorite” section on the home screen where you can add your favorite apps.  It also includes two other panels that you can modify to your liking which are labeled for video and game applications.  One thing I don’t like is that you can’t edit the other icons on the home screen and some of them I wouldn’t use on a regular basis.

The Beelink GT1 Ultimate comes with Kodi installed but they have changed the name to Qodi.  So, the icon on the front page reads “Qodi”, but it still launches the Kodi build that Beelink has installed on the system.  I am assuming that they have changed the name of this to avoid any types of legal problems with Kodi.  The pre-installed “Qodi” comes with some of the popular addons but not all of them.  I went ahead and deleted “Qodi” from the device, went into Google Play Store and installed the most recent version of real Kodi which is Krypton 17.0 at the time of this writing.  After doing this, the icon on the home page named “Qodi” will now launch our new version of Kodi Krypton that I just installed.

The Beelink GT1 Ultimae also comes with an application called QodiMate which is meant to be an addons installer for Kodi.  You can think of this as an app store for Kodi but it doesn’t include many of the better addons that are currently available.

The device also is equipped with an update and backup manager that makes it easy to update the firmware when there is a new version released for the device.

Android 6.0 comes installed on the Beelink GT1 Ultimate which is nice, especially due to the fact that Kodi 17 Krypton now requires at least 5.0 to run.

The device includes a very powerful processor that you will now fine on many of the top-end Android TV Kodi boxes which is the Amlogic S912 2.0GHz,Octa Core.  This powerful processor provides smooth streaming and quick interaction with the various menu items within the user interface.

Download and upload speeds for the Beelink GT1 Ultimate were great.  On a wireless connection, download speed was at 133.33 Mbps with upload speed at 19.79 Mbps.  On a wired connection directly into the router, download speed was 133.66 Mbps and upload speed was 18.50 Mbps.

Things I like about the Beelink GT1 Ultimate Android TV Box

  • A powerful device with an Octa Core processor, 3G of RAM and 32G of storage space
  • User inteface is easy to customize
  • The H.265  decoding provides nice streaming for large files
  • Nice remote with some features not found on other Android TV Boxes
  • Works excellent with Rii I8 Mini 2.4Ghz Wireless Touchpad Keyboard With Mouse
  • The price is excellent for this powerful Android Kodi box.

What I don’t like about the Beelink GT1 Ultimate

  • Home screen isn’t customizable except for favorites area.
  • Don’t like Kodi being named “Qodi” within the system.  This is mis-leading and Qodi launcher button on home screen is a little bothersome.

Would I use the Beelink GT1 Ultimate As A Primary Streaming Device Within My Home?

Yes, I would use the Beelink GT1 Ultimate as my primary streaming device within my home network if I mainly used Kodi.  The 3G of RAM will help with Kodi buffering and the 32G of storage is a nice step up from the other Android boxes on the market today.

I do not recommend this box due to the reasons below:

Beelink seems like a the kind of brand that uses any way to reduce the production costs.
For example, this one has NO Netflix, you will not be able to even find it on the playstore, same for HBO go.
The remote is not exactly meant for a TV box, as it is more like a TV remote, just a few buttons on it that actually make sense for a TV box.
Unable to connect some devices. I tried connecting a wireless Logitech mouse, that worked on a cheaper Chinese box without problems, same for a regular keyboard.

I was able to install an APK for Netflix, however, I cannot update it and it works in maximum 720p, when the box is 4K…if Netflix decides to make some changes to the client in a future version, I might not be able to use Netflix on it…

You can buy the Xiaomi box, Xiaomi never disappoints; on GearBest, at this moment it is actually cheaper then the Beelink.

I bought this on preorder. I had the M8S Mini prior to the GT1 ulitimate and I like it.

    Pros that you didn’t mention.
    DDR4 RAM

Cons: Poor IR signal for remote.
32bit OS when the CPU is 64bit
Antutu bench mark not that much higher than 905X

Does anyone know how to get out of the Restricted Profile? I have 2 boxes and somehow one of my Beelink Gt1 Ultimate boxes got put into restricted mode which when pressed doesn’t have any of the Personal Options that it has originally where the Restricted Profile button is located! I have tried emailing Beelink and Gearbest but noone seems to understand what I am trying to say. It doesn’t have as many options in Restricted Profile Mode like in regular progle mode and I don’t know how to get it back into regular profile mode. And does anyone happen to have the codes to setup the learn button on the TV side of the remote?

I have the Beelink GT1 Ultimate running latest firmware 311MO, they removed qodi but now has movie player icon in its place, can anyone else confirm that their movie player icon on launcher opens the file browser? Not sure how they messed that up.

I live in the US would throttling be an issue. Recently bought ABOX S905X with 1 Gig and only 2.4 GHZ Wireless and was disappointed with Performance. Would you expect this product to work Much Better? I have AC Network available that ABOX would not take advantage up and really don’t want to uses RJ45 Cable connection if I don’t have to since Router is at the other side of house.

Hello David, I would suggest downloading the app on your device through Google Play Store, do a speed test and first see if that is a problem. Also, try restarting your wireless router by unplugging from power, let sit for a few minutes and then plug back in. See if that helps any.

Thanks just ordered the Beeline GT1 Ultimate can’t wait to see the performance difference. 1 Gig of Memory seems to be an issue with Kodi and performance. Always at 80% usage so think with 3 Gig this should not be an issue going forward.

Get a VPN service. No throttling by your provider. Wired is best, but Private Internet Access has an android app either way.
